“one of Michigan's most spectacular drives”

It’s called a “tunnel,” but unlike a mountain tunnel, the Tunnel of Trees gives the road tripper a different view and experience at each twist and turn as it hugs the Lake Michigan with rich hardwoods on each side creating a tree canopy over much of the narrow road.
Spring and fall are the best times to go! be aware of heavy traffic tho!
The Tunnel of Trees, is one of The Most Beautiful drives in The Midwest! Spring and fall are my favorite times to view Lake Michigan through clumps of White Birch and the magnificent colors of the season. Spring brings a solid carpet of White Trillium to the forest floor. Fall, the Splendor of untold shades of fall colors in the leaves and the Crystal Clear Blue sky above! The serenity of this Historic Drive and Beauty alone, will have you returning again and again!!!
Nice slow ride along Lake Michigan!
beautiful fall drive. be prepared for cars randomly stopping for pictures though.
The Tunnel of Trees is a gorgeous must do scenic drive in the fall, its a beautiful scenic narrow road along side the lake. A few cute Ma and Pop places to stop at along the way to get out and stretch your legs. If your taking your time, it will take about 1-2 hours, depends on how many stops you make and how much time you spend at each one. My family and I have taken this scenic drive a few times, while visiting Petosky in the Fall. Two of the times we took it during the week, where there is little to no traffic if you go while people are at work and places are dead and another time, we went during the weekend, where there was a bit more traffic but not horrible. Just take the roadway slow and steady and you'll be fine. Also, there are a couple scenic stops for you to stop at, to get out and take a picture or just take the view in. Pond Hill Farm is a must stop along the way, its fun for the kids and they have fun fall harvest activities in the fall. They also have a cafe with Delicious farm to table food, they close early though, so get there before 6pm! They also have nice views of the gorgeous fall foliage!
I'm sure that this drive is much prettier in the fall. However I did expect that the trees would arch over the road. They did not. Although it was a nice drive it was like so many others in the summer and not worth the effort to get there.
Very disappointing in August. Not much of a "tunnel," but awesome views of the lake if you can find a place to stop.
