“Easy access to relaxation”
Clints Well Campground is located near a junction of two major roads which provide access to northern Arizona's National Forest lands. As such it is close to several features of recreational interest. A short drive from the campground is the scenic Mogollon Rim, the two thousand foot drop-off that marks the southern limit of the Colorado Plateau. Also within easy driving distance are a number of forest lakes known for their excellent fishing. A small community which is springing up at the crossroads provides easy access to services such as a gas station/country store and a restaurant.Campsites at Clints Well are tucked away in a stand of tall, old growth ponderosas a short distance off the highway. Since access is so convenient, the area is open year-round although after winter storms the campground and surrounding roads may become impassable and are occasionally closed.Group Campouts and Events: This campground does not have facilities for large groups or group activities. If one campsite cannot accommodate your group (eight people and two cars per site), please call the Mogollon Rim Ranger District at 928-477-2255 to plan your group camp-out at Elks, Moqui, or Long Valley group campgrounds.

We happened upon this campsite by asking for suggestions at a closely located gas station. The local people were super friendly. The composite bathrooms were very nice. The camp sites were clean, and a perfect fit for our retro. It was beautiful scenery and had a nice dog trail for Sydney.

Went up to the Payson area the weekend after Memorial Day. BIG MISTAKE. There were two fires going on, and everybody and their brother and their imaginary friend was out in their camper, RV, toy-hauler, etc. Traffic was freakin' horrible, and I expected this place to be totally packed. But I was the second of only three campers there-- the others were an RV and a guy who hung up a hammock-tent late at night. Maybe I lucked out, but it was just so *quiet* and peaceful... I loved it. I tend to pick up litter, and the worst I saw were a few cigarette butts and one bottletop; the pit-toilet bathroom was probably cleaner than mine and had plenty of TP. I did worry about bears (I grilled some salmon on my Coleman stove-- too dry for even fire-ring fires that weekend-- and I was a little nervous about the scent being an invitation) but none ever showed up. Found a Turkey Vulture primary feather that was a full 18" long while out walking around... Nice place with very large campsites; good choice. I'll definitely camp there again.

Empty when l got there at 4pm.
I think only 7 spots available.
There was nowhere to pay the fees so l assumed they closed down for winter.
A little muddy so you need to plan your exit in the winter.
Close to the road but not too much road noise in the night.
Nice spot to overnight.
