“A prickly encounter”
he Bell Park Cacti Garden was started in 1974 by the late Hershel Bell. In 1985 the care of the park was graciously taken by Claude Burnett Jr. and his wife Debbie. When Claude and Debbie began caring for the park, it contained about 5 cactus specimen, with a total of about 15 plants. The park now contains over 20 varieties with over 350 plants. The scenic area contains a walking path, for easier viewing of these beautiful plants, and a grassy area with two picnic tables for the convenience of visitors. The park, located on the western outskirts of Hale Center is one of only 2 cacti gardens featured in the State Tour Magazine.
Nothing special actually... just a garden with no explanations, guidance, list of species or anything. It's in a pretty bad shape as well. If there were no GPS directions we could have easily missed it. Not worth the stop.
Cool cactus area a couple of minutes off the highway.
