Confirmed by 8 users | Last reported on May 19, 2022Decided to stop and see El Malpais National Monument and Lavaland is across the street from the visitors center. It's next to I-40, but we had very little road noise. Small pines between each dirt site. We had 50 amp FHUs and an easy-to-level space. It would be tight if the park were full, but we had lots of room for our stay. Very nice owner, great rate, quiet, safe and clean.
Nothing pretty about the park, but for visiting the two national monuments in the area it was perfect. New Walmart across the freeway, several decent restaurants, easy access fuel locations - Grants is a small town with nice people.
The KOA further west is not nearly as nice, and they charge $47/night. Definitely stay here if you're in the area. Park WiFi weak.

Older park in desperate need of some financial TLC.
We escaped the heat of southern New Mexico and landed here awaiting our next reservation. The park is older with some permanent residents. Everyone is perfectly nice that is a permanent resident, sure some of the trailers are older but with one exception they are all cared for and respectable looking.
The park needs some love however. There are picnic benches in disrepair that would be better served if they were simply removed from the park altogether. The water hookups all leak which the birds appreciate but doesn't make for the most pleasant experience. 30 and 50 amp sites are intermixed throughout the park and unless you specify you want 50amp you are presumed to need only 30amp.
The road noise is awful as the weather gets cooler overnight. Completely understand why and it's expected but don't expect silence if you want to sleep with your windows open in the cooler weather. The park is right off I-40 and there is an Eastbound off-ramp directly in front of the park that truckers readily pull off on at night and catch some sleep. It is LOUD when they use their air brakes and idle for any length of time.
The provided dog run is not a dog run, it is a small pen suitable only for small dogs. The waste receptacle next to the dog run has been full since our arrival and has not been emptied once.
Now for the good. You can get your mailed delivered to the front desk. We had a business and Amazon delivery directly to The Gump by FedEx and UPS. The park wifi was available even at the farthest point from the front office, although it isn't fast. The cell reception was good. There is a Walmart on the other side of the freeway if you need to stock up.

My husband and I stopped here for a shower and to get back on road. Very friendly staff and very clean bathrooms and showers. Three showers. Three sinks and three commodes same for the men’s side. Hot showers. It’s a great place to stop and freshen up. You feel welcome here.

Staff was very friendly. Called to make a reservation but it wasn’t necessary they have after hours checkin available. They have a brewery attached the office.
Bathrooms were heated and clean and site was very quiet. We were in the row farthest from the highway and could still hear a bit of highway noise. There was no hand soap or paper towels in the bathrooms and site was very snowy and icy from a snow a few days before. They assigned us to site 3 but when we arrived said we could choose whatever site we wanted, only found this out after we pulled in. The road was plowed but the individual sites were not. It would’ve helped if iour site was cleared and leveled before we arrived. It was super convenient to the highway and there was a Walmart right across the highway.

We called on our way to Norther AZ to see if we can pay them to fill up our water tank, the older gentleman who answers the phone was friendly and told us to on in anytime.
We stopped by, I walked into the office and the guy from the phone was at the office, he refused to take my money since we only needed a few gallons of water to top off the tanks.
If I didn’t have to stop by somewhere specific for the night, I would have stayed at this place.
Awesome and friendly service without a doubt

Just a stopping point on our trip to and from Texas. The lady in the office was super friendly and even called us the next day to check if everything was good. Brewery was great but bring your ID, they card everyone, even when you are 65. 😝 No food but a back patio which was dog friendly. Park itself needs a little loving care but we felt safe and the highway noise wasn’t too bad. Only real downer - no picnic table to eat out on.

Dump station next to me overflowing every time someone empties their tanks, raw sewage is left on the ground to evaporate. Told management about it and they said it’s been happening for awhile now

We spent seven weeks at Lavaland RV Park. The park is located beside I-40 and very close to a Walmart, Denny’s, Walgreen’s, and a couple of C-stores. Lavaland is a medium size RV park that is locally owned.
The park seems to be a mix of full-time residents, long-term contractors working in the area, and short-term (many are only stopping for one night). Unfortunately, most of the full-time residents do not keep their sites and RVs clean. And, the owner apparently doesn’t care about the appearance of these sites. The transitional sites are well maintained.
As an overnight stop, Lavaland is a great option. Super convenient and reasonable rates.
For a longer stay, I believe the owner needs to make several improvements for Lavaland to become a five-star RV park. These improvements include, upgrading the parking area around the office, upgrading the laundry (one washer and one dryer is not enough), having the garbage dumpster emptied before trash is running over, expanding the office hours, and adding a kitchen to the brewery so food is available.
There is a great deal of potential at Lavaland. Any RV park with a brewery on-site has the potential to become a five-star destination, not just an overnight stop.

It was a good midpoint to stop at on the way to Santa Fe. If you are a beer enthusiast that's a plus. It was quiet after hours self check was the best. Although there were no hook-up sites available, there was a non hook up site available which is all we needed to rest the night away. Lots are fairly level. Next to highway so there is highway noise, but convenient.

It is mostly a fill time park with shine pretty sketchy characters. The park could be nice if they would clean up the garbage and dead stuff laying around. Very noisy by the gray, shower room only about 45 degrees and they wouldn't turn up the heat. It had been remodeled with nive tile but it is cracking and not being repaired.
Laundry and showers were clean, staff friendly. .
