You can not get a campsite unless you are in line for one at 8:00. Even in the middle of the week. Twelve mile beach is 5stars but the campground is a pipe dream for road trippers. There are lots of ways to enjoy the beach besides staying here luckily. Just camp at a nearby lake and hike or drive. The campground has a great picnic area and allows pets😊

Right now, this is a remote first come first serve and if they ever go to reservations I will shoot myself. This is one beautiful spot, great access now from Muinising or Grand Marais off highway H-58. Probably 2 miles after that on a sandy bumpy road tasks you into the c/g. The access road is very narrow with lots of overhanging trees. You can't be too big (we are a 28' TT) and their are a couple of sites that would take slightly bigger rigs. This is one lane road with a turn around at the end. They have pit toilets and some water. Sites are very shaded and you park on sand in back in spots. There is no elect. or dump.

These sites are beautiful, some have tables and fire rings.

This was one of the most beautiful rustic campgrounds you'll ever stay at. If you can get a spot overlooking lake Superior, do it! Those spots have less privacy, but you'll have your own pathway down a small, sandy cliff to view the most breathtaking sunset you'll ever see. If you only can grab a wooded spot, they cost less, but allow for more privacy and you can still take the walkway down to the beach to adore the sunset. The air is fragrant with the scent of cedars here. There are trails too. Just be sure to bring supplies because it's a bit of a hike to the nearest store. They have a generator free zone too, and the campers are the quiet, considerate sort. The only bad thing is this campground is almost always full to the hilt!!! Hard to get a spot of any kind.

One of the best campsites I've ever stayed at!

The lakefront sites at Twelvemile Beach are unbelievable. They are well spaced and have incredible views over Lake Superior. A short trek down the sand dune (non-lakefront sites have access via stairs) and you're on a beautiful beach that stretches for miles. We hung our hammock in the trees overlooking the lake and enjoyed the several hour long sunsets from our site each night.

This campground attracts a quiet, respectful set of campers that perfectly matches the scenery.

Munising is about a 45 minute drive away and I highly recommend the Pictured Rocks Kayaking tour to see the rocks from the water. The tour covers the area from Munising to almost Twelvemile Beach with a combination of motorized boat and kayak.

The NPS website almost scared me off on the first-come, first-served availability. When we arrived at 2pm on a Sunday in mid-June there were several lakefront sites available and all of the non-lakefront sites. The campground filled by Wednesday mid-day.

It was raining when we pulled into this USFS campground located on Twelvemile Beach near the Pictured Rocks on Lake Superior. The sites were very tight with lots of trees around, perfect for tent camping but barely enough to back our 25 ft. motorhome into a site. The campground looked full, but we did a loop hoping we would be in luck. A van with a 15 ft. travel trailer was getting ready to move on as we passed by and he offered us his spot. The spot was very narrow with trees around and we managed to fit in but were unable to put our side slide out and had to use leveling blocks. Very shady with nice big birches all around. No power or water, pit toilets, so make sure you are tanked up when you arrive. This was also a no generator site, but it had a nice fire ring and picnic table with a latern post.
In the morning after the rain we ventured out and discovered the beautiful beach views with stairways down over the dunes to the beach on Lake Superior.
As we were packing up a camper was driving by before 9 am and asked if he could claim our spot.
This is definitely a camp to come back to, but get here early because sites fill up fast.

This is my favorite campground. The area is clean and secluded. We actually only paid $7 with the Access pass and would probably pay four times that to stay here. Beautiful sunsets and beach, but mosquitos were present at times. Tight fit for us (truck and 24ft trailer)

The location is absolutely stunning and such a perfect sunset watching spot. Also, this is a recent change—camping is by online reservation only. There is no walk up option available. Beautiful place to stay right on Lake Superior, however the biting flies were absolutely unbearable during the daylight hours. Thankfully they calmed down a bit in the evening so I could enjoy a fire. Definitely come prepared and you will enjoy the beauty of this campground.

This is a primitive campgrounds, pit toilets and fountain drinking water. The sites are large and very private. You must make reservations as of July, 2019. You are steps from the beach and the sunsets are amazing. Mostly tents or small RV’s (under 20’ best for) keep in mind that you are about 40 minutes from town so take enough items to sustain yourself. We loved this campgrounds, it was peaceful and off grid (NO AT&T service)

Such a beautiful campground. Very private campsites that are set far apart from each other with trees in between. Lake Superior beach access with gorgeous sunsets. Clean vault toilets, no showers. We had no mobile network (AT&T). No hookups at site but did have fire pit. One of the more quiet campgrounds we’ve been to.

Our campsite had beautiful views of Lake Superior. We were able to enjoy spectacular sunsets.
The camp host was friendly and helpful. Rules were clearly posted.
The North Country Trail runs through the campground so we were able to hike a portion of it from our campsite.
Site 15 was listed as soft sand and it was very soft. We have a 4 wheel drive truck and needed it to back our camper up the slight incline of the site. That is the only negative we had in the campground.
