Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on September 24, 2023This area is labeled for OHV recreation use and since it is close to Grand Junction, folks come out for a short visit to ride their bikes and then go home. As such, it is a very quiet place during the evening. What we liked about the place is that it is close to Grand Junction for shopping, restaurants and also use of the local Planet Fitness for showers (and a workout too). The Grand Junction airport is close by, but noise is not that bad. For cell coverage, I would stay closer to the entrance/airport area. If the area gets a lot of rain, the mud there will be pretty thick. We parked over some grass which helped. However take precautions against mice....first time we had mice in the rig.
This road goes all the way to the mountains where there are 2 shooting ranges.
This area is big rig friendly with lots of room to space out. Keep in mind that about a mile in there is a large dip in the road that I would not take a larger RV.
I had wandered out to the other OHV area a little farther south and noticed a lot of broken glass and shot gun shells. Fortunately this area was definitely cleaner.

Found a decent site. Access was steep, no problems. Flat, open spot on top of a hillock about 100' above the road bed. Some airport noise. Plane watching is all right now. All hell broke loose around 12:30 AM with the local youth putting on quite a display. Road races, firearms and fireworks. Right on. It was a show!
Overall it's a five star because it's free!

Easy place to find and access. Nothing spectacular but no complaints. We arrived at dark and had no problems find plenty of space.

The location of this site was great, as it was right off the main town of Grand Junction. It's right by the airport, so you see and hear a bit of the planes come through, but this wasn't a problem for us. The beginning makes it seem like you have to get up the steep hills for the sites, but if you go a little further down, there are sites on the left side on the road that are pretty large in size and flat without having a steep access.
Overall an okay place if you're just looking to stay for the night, but when walking a few feet from our camper, we found a single deer leg and a spilled container full of used needles, only to find out from a friend who went to school nearby that this area is often used for meth heads, so just watch out for that if you stay here. We were also woken up in the morning by several groups of dirt bikers parked very close to our camper on the same site due to the great access to steep, dirt hills nearby.

Good place for overnight stay and paved road about 95%. No wind and popular place for atv’s during the day.

We stayed here on a Friday night. Heading to Moab the next day. We stopped right at the pin point which was probably a OHV parking lot. Probably not 100’ from the road. There was nobody parked there at the time.
In hind sight, I would have gone further down the paved road. On Friday night, there was a lot of road noise for traffic coming in for the weekend with OHVs and Dirt bikes.
Road was fine for our 36’ fifth wheel. Had ATT cell. 5 minutes from I70. 10 minutes from fresh water and dump at Fruita visitors center

Roads pretty rutted, take it slow & it’s fine. Stayed one night. Lots of ATV’s & dirt bikes. Family friendly. Don’t think I would stay in wet weather, would be a mud pit. But perfect 10/16/20.

We needed a spot to spend the night real quick and this was perfect.
Google maps doesn’t bring you to the actual spot, it stops like half a mile before it.
Apple maps will tell you to go back onto the route but if you follow the bend it’ll bring you back to the road and bring you to the right spot.
There was no one here when we stayed, but the only thing was that we did find a needle in one of the bushes. So be aware.

Area is wide open hilly dirt fields, with many OHV tracks and trails crisscrossing the terrain. Would give it four stars if we came to ride dirt bikes, but we were looking for a spot to boondock for a few days. OHV noise was moderate, but the area is also popular with target shooters so there was shooting going on continually every day we were there (dog didn't like that at all). The area is also covered in broken glass and other old shooting targets. Lastly, since there is almost no vegetation, the wind whips up massive dust clouds that got into our rig despite having everything closed up. I realize we were not the right type of people for a spot like this, but for general boondocking this place should be avoided.
