“replica of a prehistoric Indian tower”

The Desert View Watchtower, constructed in 1932 as a replica of a prehistoric Native American tower, commands a magnificent view of the Grand Canyon, the Painted Desert to the east and the San Fransico Peaks to the south. This 70 foot (21 meter) tower is the highest point on the South Rim. The interior walls of the tower feature murals by Hopi artist Fred Kabotie.

Didn't make it in the tower but the view surrounding it in the late afternoon was the best after being on the rim all day this was the spot! Restrooms and food here too.

In my opinion this was the best views of the canyon. We did not go to the top of the tower, but in the base and at the point the view was fantastic. Well worth the stop!

It's not for the faint of heart if you have a fear of heights (like I do) but it is completely worth the absolutely stunning views.

The first stop of my virgin visit to the Grand Canyon.... woweee what a place and what a view! We were quite early, so not lot was open yet. But there is a ton of parking here, ablutions and a restaurant.

The view of the canyon is breathtaking!

Let me just say WOW! It was so beautiful! We were there for a good 20 minutes before we heard someone speaking English. Folks from all over the world were checking out the Canyon! Gives me pride knowing that God made something so Beautiful for all the world to see right there in the middle of no-where Arizona. I will give a heads up, while the tower is free, it does cost $35 to get into the park to see the Canyon.
