“in the Shawnee National Forest”

Fully furnished cabins in the Shawnee National Forest. Wooded paths wind up and down the hills past rock formations. Enjoy the screened in porch at dusk and view area wildlife. Relax in the hot tub under the stars. Imagine sleeping peacefully in this log-sided cabin isolated from big city stress.  We are located in beautiful Johnson County, Illinois, and nestled within the Shawnee National Forest. Enjoy  the screened in porch at dusk and view the wildlife that wanders freely through our woods.  The hot tub is located out of doors so you can relax in luxury beneath the stars.  Wooded paths wind up and down hill past rock bluffs with swings placed along the way for resting.  A quarter-mile track is available for runners, joggers, and walkers. The cabin is fully furnished, down to the plates and tableware.  Bring your own food and beverages, but leave the pots and pans to us.  There is a fully-equipped kitchen with a stove, oven, microwave, refrigerator, and smaller appliances as well. In the master bedroom, you’ll snuggle comfortably in a queen size bed.  In the bunk room, the lower bed is full sized, with a single upper.

The cabin itself was nice, everything was clean and the appearance was nice. Then when we got settled the couch was extremely uncomfortable and if you are hoping to use it for a pull out I suggest that you just get a bigger cabin. Then came the issue of the TV not working, which is an issue if you have kids and are finished hiking for the day and they are use to falling asleep with it on, also there are zero instructions on how to use it and there are 2 remotes, their instructions is a piece of paper that labels the buttons on one remote. After about a half our we went and got the gentleman at the main house came to fix it and was able to but it took about an hour to do so which cut into our family campfire time as someone was always with him. He was very friendly though and did get it fixed and while he was with us he told me that he had a last minute one night booking the night before and it had worked while he was there earlier and he had to rush though the cleaning so let him know if anything else was wrong. When we went to get into the hot tub and turned on the jets it was pretty dirty and we looked for a net to clean it out and couldn't find one and since we didn't want to bother the man at the front again (it was around 10pm) we turned off the jets and just tried to get it out with our hands, I figured he had just skipped it since he made it seem like he had to hurry between us and the previous guest and didn't think much about it. Then later that night and all the next day we had no internet, so if you need to use your computer or anything for work while you play, don't rely on it, the gentleman doesn't know how to fix it, his son is the "tech guy" and he works on weekends so you might have to go without or wait until he gets off work at 10pm. Those were our biggest complaints until the day after we checked out.

The day after we checked out we got a call from a very rude woman who insisted that my dog had been in the hot tub and it was full of dog hair, which never happened. For one my dog is a breed that doesn't shed, you could pet him all day and maybe get one or two hairs and second he is scared to death of water and would in no way get into a hot tub much less me even allowing him in the tub. Like I stated previously the tub was dirty when we got there and the man said he had to do a quick turn around so maybe he just didn't clean it before we got there and we got the blame(and Fee) for it. The second false accusation is that were people were smoking in the house, we did have smokers with us but they smoked outside using the ashtrays the cabins provided on the porch to smoke. We did burn some sausage that morning but to me that wouldn't be the same smell as cigarette smoke and the only other thing I can think of is when cleaning up before we left (like they ask you to) we emptied the ashtray into the only garbage can provided which is in the kitchen. When telling the woman this she got even more rude and called me a liar. Other than the false accusations and being told we would be banned from their cabin and possibly other cabins in the area and that we would be charged a fee for them draining a hot tub that was filthy when we got there the place was itself was nice if you can get the TV and internet to work and if they got a new couch. Oh and it's close to a train which we heard a few times and the cabin next to ours has a very large bell that the neighbors liked to ring a lot which can kind of ruin your relaxing around the campfire as you kept hearing a bell toll and train whistle.
