The Kan-O-Tex Service Station in Galena, Kansas, is a roadside diner and souvenir shop in the former Little's Service Station building, a Kan-O-Tex filling station which originally served U.S. Route 66 motorists in 1934.
The gas station is part of Cars on the Route. Unfortunately, it was closed when we drove by, but it was still very much worth the stop! They have Tow Tater which is the original from which Tow Mater was based on for Disney's Cars movie as well as Big Red (the firetruck). Around the corner to the right heading back to Missouri, you'll come across the Luigi, Lightening McQueen, and the sheriff. It's supposedly where the idea of Radiator Springs came to be. The kids will love it, and if you're a Disney fan, well adults will have fun with the photo ops, too! Visit down the street and you'll come across a restored Texaco gas station (Gearhead Curios) and speak with the owner there, Aaron. He'll tell you all about the area and legends of the route and the town. You also get a photo op with Doc Hudson at this shop. It is a very quiet little town but so full of character!
a MUST for any Disney Cars fan. For those in the know, this is the home of the original Tow Mater who inspired Mater from Cars. A bit of a ghost Town, but pleasant reminder of days gone by.
