“Telling the big story of Kentucky’s small-town capital city”
The Leslie Morris Park atop Fort Hill features two Civil War forts, the Sullivan House interpretive center, a picnic pavilion, a scenic downtown Frankfort overlook and several hiking trails. The park is open to vehicular traffic year-round from 11 A.M. to 5:00 P.M. Free guided tours are available Monday- Saturday from Memorial Day through October 31. The Capital City Museum now features exhibits about many aspects of Frankfort history, including local businesses and industries, famous Frankfort-made bait-casting fishing reels, the Kentucky River, the assassination of Kentucky Governor William Goebel, Kentucky state government and politics, childhood and education in Frankfort, bourbon whiskey distilling, Frankfort's connections with the movies, local military veterans, and a great deal more. The museum offers for sale books published by Frankfort Heritage Press and other volumes of local history. It also produces a series of Christmas ornaments based upon lost but historic Frankfort buildings. Tours, including Russ Hatter's popular downtown Frankfort walking tours in the summertime and the Murder and Mayhem Tours in October, originate at the museum.
