Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on November 08, 2023Pulled into this rest stop off the 10fwy. A little worried because the reviews said there were only 5 parking spots. Reviews were old because this place is newly renovated and amazing. Has well over 50 parking spots for trucks/RVs with car parking on the other side. Beautiful building with small welcome center and hotel like restrooms. Large court yard and picnic areas with a fun playground for kids. Perfect rest stop. Well done!

Free overnight rest area. Newly rebuilt and recently opened. Awesome place for all size vehicles. Dozens of parking spaces plus spaces off the service road if you look carefully. Eventually a full service DPS police station will be added. Vending machines and restrooms are new. Full internet and WiFi using T-Mobile LTE. Only saw one grill but lots of covered picnic areas. The welcome center will eventually become a museum for A Buffalo Soldiers exhibit. There is a WSC service worker who tells the story of the Buffalo Soldiers with great respect. He gave out flags for Memorial Day 2018. We car camp but for the r’vers this is where you want to bring your big rigs because you can pull in and pull out easily. I did not see any dump or water stations. This will be a very busy rest area once people find out about it. No gas station or food nearby but you can call for help here.

We read the first review of this Safety Rest Area and decided to stop and check it out. The facility is amazing and apparently is a 25 Million investment . We met Floyd and another gentleman on duty and had a very interesting conversation about the Rest Area and all that went into its development. Tons of parking and marked areas for RV's. 24 hour security and the police station is on site. Washrooms were spotless, a large vending machine room and a Safety Room for storms. Plenty of picnic areas as well. Floyd was more like an RV Park Host. Thanks Floyd! This is a best option to break up the long I 10 drive across Texas. Very nice!

This place is spectacular. There is dedicated RV parking on the truck side parallel to the sidewalk so you can put your sides out and not have them taken off by a semi. There is 24 hour video surveillance and the rest area is spacious and has a storm shelter, if needed. Staff is there during the day. Absolutely amazing...and FREE!

We are a family of 6 and have been full timing for about 7-8months. Now venturing into boondocking. This was our first spot we tried and it was perfect! We got there around 5p so there was still space along the sidewalk so we could put our 4 slide a out. We have a 41 foot fifth wheel and there’s is PLENTY of space. Bathrooms super clean.

Safe, with cameras. We parked along the sidewalk and could put out the slide. Met Richard, nice guy who maintains this stop very nicely. Offered up hot chocolate and doughnuts out of his own stash. Bathrooms were nicer than some hotels we have stayed in. 180° sky. Lot of poles though. Trucks would come in and out. Not a biggie. Little nature area walk through. According to Richard "feel free to open your slide, put your stabilizers down, make your self's at home. No dumping though"

The area for trucks and RV's is very spacious with a few dedicated parking spots for RV/Buss where there is room to put out slides. We were the only RV the night we stayed. The entire grounds are very well kept and clean. Wifi is available. Obviously there is truck noise but not the constant in and out like many rest areas.

This is one of the nicest rest areas I've ever seen. The parking area for rv's is behind the building so the highway noise is minimal. There is free wifi at this location. Yeah! We stayed at Walmart in Fort Stockton last night, but this is nicer and quieter. Saw some interesting birds this morning.

I overnighted here on my way back to Phoenix from Austin. I planned to stop further up the road, but figured I'd pull off and check this one out on the way. Sooooo glad I did. Most of the rest stops in Texas on the I-10 are narrow, two-lane stops with a bunch of noisy trucks. This one has a HUGE parking lot with lanes for trucks, and plenty of room for rvs/campers to park along the curb.
In the morning I checked out the information center - museum quality - which had all kinds of displays about the history of the area, and found the restrooms inside to be immaculate. There is a good-sized, well-kept playground outside for the kids, and a walking trail through it. Incredible. Only caveat, at least on the day/night I was there was the bugs. I made the mistake of opening the patio on my toy hauler to check the SxS, and let a bunch of little flies in. Oh well (tip: they vacuum well).
I'll stay here on my way to Austin again if I can talk myself out of driving around one of the worst freeways I've ever been on, the I-10 in El Paso.
