Confirmed by 5 users | Last reported on April 27, 2022We stumbled upon this CG when we visited Fort Stanton (very cool and worth a detour)!
Three other vehicles are here tonight (March 4, 2016) in this spread out, fenced gravel lot. $5 for electric, $5 for water. We don't need either so it's free for us. Close to the road but very little traffic. Nice covered picnic area. Separate large equestrian area. 30 minutes to Ruidoso.
We had planned to return for another night at Valley of Fire but this will do just fine!

What a sweet campground. We pulled in after a long 9+ hour drive and was found electricity and a lightning show from an incoming storm. Close enough to go visit Fort Stanton and appreciate the area's past. Was able to drive to Natural Bridge National park easy the next day. Found horse riders the next morning out for a ride as our guest. Quiet and clean

We camped here specifically to visit the Fort Stanton Historical Site nearby. Since we had planned to dry camp anyway, the lack of available hookups was no big deal. There were lots of other rigs when we got there including horse trailers. Apparently, this is an equestrian trail head. There are about 5 spots with electric and water hookups with just a few more that are water only. Each amenity you use is $5/night (so $10/night if you use both water and electric). There's a dump station on site and a BLM host. The vault toilets were extremely cleaned and even smelled good!
We had some very friendly neighbors and thoroughly enjoyed visiting Fort Stanton. ~S

We arrived in our 31 ft Motorhome late around 8 pm and this "late check in" wasn't a problem at all as the fees have to be provided in a fee-box and not directly to the host.
Overnight parking without hook up is FREE.
Overnight parking with electricity is $5
Overnight parking with water hook up is $5
Overnight parking with water and electricity is $10
The host is to the left hand of side no.1 and is taking really good care of this scenic campground. Picnic tables and pavilions are provided as well as fire rings, garbage cans and super clean dry toilets. All sides are wide open and easy to reach.
We shared the campground with several horseback riders and were amazed to learn that the campground also offers paddocks for the horses.
Surrounded by the mountains you probably won't find a campground more quiet. We highly recommend staying here...it was just wonderful.

$5 Water, $5 Electric, $15 dump station, vault toilets, and free trash. Water is well water and can be smelly. It's an equestrian trailhead so there can be many horses. The water only spots are very spread out and nice but the electric and dry camping spots are typical RV park spaced. Pay box, very clean, and since there's so much free dispersed camping in the area you can just use the amenities and camp elsewhere.

We arrived 12/23/2020 and were the only ones here. The site water was turned off because it’s been getting so cold overnight but for $5/day the host will turn on a pump for you. We used the electric, which was $5/day. Dry camping is free. The pit toilets are super clean. The hosts are super friendly and helpful (and they are here until May 2021). We hiked Valley of Fires, White Sands National Park and the nearby Petroglyphs Loop Trail. We went to Ruidoso for Christmas evening and did a sleigh ride in 100-year-old sleighs drawn by two huge horses. Tomorrow we’re heading to nearby Lincoln, Roswell and Bitter Lake National Wildlife Refuge. We only had one bar of Verizon LTE, but our son is still able to stream YouTube videos tethered to our phones. We definitely plan to come back.

Clean vault toilets. $5 if you want power. $5 if you want water. Can’t beat the price for an electric spot.
Perfect for an overnight with many great hiking trails right there. Solid AT&T service. Was able to stream March Madness. We used a mobile booster, but had solid signal as we moved away from our van. We arrived on a Saturday in March mid afternoon. One other fifth wheel there along a camp host (who we did not meet). Some day use folks with horses arrived early Sunday.
Signs posted that this place was going to be closed from April 1st to mid June 2021 to make “improvements”. Many of the spots were in great shape and had brand new fire pits, etc. So not exactly sure what they would be improving.
Really liked the place. Great location for Lincoln or Ruidoso.
