“Check out an old timey fort”
The Colorado Historical Society restored the fort and opened the Fort Garland Museum in 1950. Restored and reconstructed buildings include the adobe Commandant's Quarters, the cavalry barracks with exhibits of Hispanic traditional arts and 19th century transportation artifacts, and officer's quarters. Permanent exhibits focus on Kit Carson and Buffalo Soldiers. The museum is administered by History Colorado.
Great museum, unexpected gem. 30 min stop, inside the barracks has authentic history and artifacts
I could not find this museum or fort, using GPS. However, Fort Garland is a nice town and a beautiful area not far from Great Sand Dunes National Park, so I gave it 5-stars and I hope you find it.
Gave it only 3 stars since the museum is closed on Sundays but it looked great. Would have loved to go thru it
