Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 25, 2022Tent camping for one night, we got a site way in the back away from everyone and it was the best. They give our ample firewood for a $5 bundle. The bathrooms are good. If you want the back sites make sure your car isn’t too low on the ground! Totally worth the stay
The pictures that were already on Campendium before I wrote this review obviously date back to a happier era for this campground. Most sites are occupied by permanent residents and the facilities are an absolute no go area - so bad that I did not feel like taking pictures there. We had a site with full hookups so we always used the toilet and shower in our trailer. Our site was very close to the entrance in a part that was relatively nice and quiet.
We realized a bit too late that the days we planned to be in the Mendocino/Fort Bragg area included the Memorial Day weekend. All of the campgrounds we tried were already fully booked. So we were happy to find a spot here. The lady making our reservation was very friendly and when we arrived (late in the evening, after dark) she and a few of her colleagues were very helpful in finding our site and getting our big trailer into it. Which was great, because it took quite some maneuvering to get it right. Because the ground started dropping right behind our site and we had to push our trailer as far back as we could, our rear stabilizers dangled about a foot above the ground. Before we could blink our eyes, there was a wheelbarrow with some large blocks that we could use to extend our levelers. So we really liked the staff and the service they gave us.
There are two options for reaching this campground from the south. We came via HW101 north and then HW20 west. HW20 was a challenge with many turns and steep inclines. When we went back south, we took HW1 south and then HW128 east, which was not only shorter, but also easier to drive. As a bonus, we liked the scenery much better. So we definitely prefer the HW128 option. We liked the location, close to Fort Bragg, the coast, Glass Beach, the Point Cabrillo lighthouse and Mendocino.
There is some noise from HW20, but it is not too bad. There were very quiet days and some days where residents would play music for a few hours. Never very loud, but audible across most of the campground.

This eclectic location has been around for decades, and had a low point. New blood has taken over and major renovations are underway. The required permanent residents are separate from the short term visitors.
It’s not perfect by any means, but the folks running it have the right idea and make up any shortcomings with their outgoing attitude. We enjoyed movie night, complimentary firewood, and amazing stars. 5 minutes to town, too.
Walking trails are all over, on the 64 acre property.
We really enjoyed the stay, there are few boondocking options and this worked out great.
