“where the mouth of the Mad River meets the Pacific Ocean”
Clam Beach is located 7 1/2 miles north of Arcata where the mouth of the Mad River meets the Pacific Ocean. Very few parks in California allow camping right on the beach, but Clam Beach County Park is one of them. A wide and long stretch of flat shoreline, Clam Beach is part of a continuous ocean frontage that connects with Mad River Beach County Park to the south and Little River State Beach to the north.
101 is probably the most picturesque high way in California, and probably in the USA as well!
As you drive through the North Coast of California you can enjoy some great views of wide and long stretched shorelines, in one of which you will find the picturesque Clam Beach about 7,5 miles north of Arcata, California.
River Deltas always create magnificent views, and certainly Clam beach is not an exclusion to this, since this is where the mouth of the Mad River meets the Pacific Ocean.
We stayed in Arcata for about a week, because me and my wife are both kite surfing lovers. The winds and waves of Clam Beach could easily rank this beach among the top in the West US Coast, since the weather conditions are just ideal for both kite surfing and windsurfing!
Best time to tame the winds and waves is spring and early summer.
Very pretty beach. Easy parking. Lots of ocean finds to see as you walk along to beach. The kids loved it.
