Stanley Hotel

According to legend Ms. Elizabeth Wilson (who was once a former chief housekeeper at the Stanley Hotel) is still assisting guests to this day… only she died in the 1950s. Many who have stayed over night at the hotel in room 217 say the the former housekeeper has a history of unpacking bags, turning the beds down, and even tucking guests in at night. Yikes.

It's a beautiful hotel. My first stay was much better, but this time we had a dirty, small room without many standard amenities (trash can in the bathroom? A table? Air conditioning so as not to have to keep the windows open and the room interior visible to those outside?). Also, they had drilled a bolt in the tub handle to repair it... Not what I expected for nearly $400 a night.

One of my favorite places to stay - it's posh enough that you know you're in a 5-star hotel. It's spirited enough to earn its haunted fame. It's offbeat enough to make accessing one of the newest national parks easy and enjoyable. The price is high (haunted rooms cost an extra per-night-premium) which can deter many, but their food is fantastic and their tours are highly entertaining. It's worth a stop at the very least.

Cool old hotel. Took advantage of the Sister Hazel concert, Day Tour, Underground Five Room Show and the Haunted tour. We enjoyed all of them! Beautiful grounds and scenery all around. Some construction was happening but good for them to keep making improvements! Will definitely be back and yes we had a few interesting experiences.

NOT PET FRIENDLY!!!

I have dreamt about going to the Stanley hotel ever since I watched the shining. I did my research and made all the preparations, called to make reservations only to find out that they changed their policy on being pet friendly- no pets whatsoever - no exceptions! No apologies- only rudeness. Unfortunately I will never get to go there now. Dreams dashed. Really unimpressed that they haven’t made any effort to make sure that the internet is updated to a pet UNFRIENDLY hotel.

We didn't stay here but we did do the tour. It was neat to see the inside of the hotel and the story but we didn't really feel we learned as much as we'd liked to have. Nothing paranormal either with our group. Lol my 12yo daughter LOVES The Shining so this was her "thing" she wanted to do on the trip. Our tour guide was very nice and did a nice job but I wouldn't "highly recommend" the tour because I didn't feel it was GREAT. But if you're really into the movie and a Stephen King fan....

Great stories, beautiful hotel, and great service.

I stay at the Stanley Hotel every year. It's one of my favorite places to stay in Colorado. The views are fantastic especially in the winter. The hotel staff is very nice and accommodating. Of course, it's known for being the influence behind Stephen King's "The Shining" and there is a gift shop inside the hotel to pickup a copy and buy other trinkets. If you're in the area you can stop by for one of their ghost tours or ghost hunts. Some of it's a little far fetched for my taste but it's still entertaining. The bar is nice. My only issue with the hotel is the restaurant inside. I've ordered room service and had no one show up with my order. I had to go downstairs and reinstate that I had placed one and was greeted with less than ideal attitudes. However, the bar staff waited on me while I was waiting for my order was very nice. Overall, I would recommend staying here. Especially if you love history and listening to spooky tales about the hotel. I stay every year and plan on continuing to do so.

We spent two nights in room 215. The room was more than I had thought it would be. There isn’t air conditioning but we expected this as the Stanley Hotel is a historic hotel and keeping it original outweighs have AC. The hotel does supply fans which were helpful.
I highly recommend the night tour. It was fantastic! Our guide was awesome and we plan to do it again when we return!

Even if you're not staying in the Stanley Hotel, it's a great place to explore on a tour. Not only does this beautiful Colonial Revival hotel have a haunted history, it’s also home to an unexpectedly beautiful love story. We spent a wonderful morning learning all about the hotel’s creator, Freeland O. Stanley and the impact he and his wife, Flora, had on the surrounding area.
