This long, narrow peninsula just out into the Green Bay portion of Lake Michigan near downtown Escanaba. A cattail marsh between the peninsula and the mainland provides good protective cover for many kinds of wetland wildlife, and there is an unimproved hiking trail that runs along the peninsula. A parking lot and boat ramp give access to the marsh for people who prefer to do their wildlife viewing from boats. Portage Point provides a protected oasis for waterfowl during the spring and fall (Apr & Oct) migrations. Portions of this area are open to public hunting and fishing. Contact the Michigan Dept of Natural Resources for affected seasons and locations.
