Historic Treasure

Our Take

Even if you don't recognize Alley Mill from paintings or photographs, it's not hard to see why it's a popular subject once you visit in person. The perfectly worn red building, the blue spring water, the lush greenery... it's the very definition of picturesque. The inside of the mill is a museum of sorts, and there's usually a park ranger around who can tell you all about the town of Alley that once stood here. There's also a really cool one-room schoolhouse building, and this is also where some really great Halloween and Independence Day events are held annually. And keep your eyes peeled for the Ozark Howler!

It's a picturesque spot worth a short detour if you are anywhere nearby. Inside the mill has a few exhibits and there are two hiking trails.

There’s the old mill which is usually open for tours in the spring summer and fall, and there’s an old schoolhouse that was moved here. The mill has exhibits on the area inside! Worth spending an hour or so here. There’s a short walking trail around the spring. Would be nice for a picnic maybe.
