“a life-size buffalo and longhorn!”
The Old Town Museum, housed in a spacious territorial-era residence, features numerous displays that relate the social and economic progress of western Oklahoma. The National Route 66 Museum and the Farm and Ranch Museum are also located within the complex. Come to Elk City's Old Town Museum Complex and explore an opera house, chapel, doctor's office, rock schoolhouse, grist mill, two sections of buildings housing replicas of early day Elk City businesses, a depot complete with a miniature train and a replica of Elk City as it was in the 1950s. Visitors will also enjoy a life-size buffalo and longhorn handcrafted in iron by a local Elk City resident. Make sure to visit the on-site Old Town Museum featuring rodeo memorabilia from the Beutler Brothers rodeo collection.
The grounds and buildings were very well laid out and in good shape, except for the water stains on the ceiling in the chapel.
What was disappointing, was the needed care in most of the displays.
The manikins must of had bad hair day. We saw duck tape holding a hand together and more.
How about the old doctors office that had a manikin with a modern day surgery clothes on.
How about renting out one of the buildings as a old fashioned soda fountain and a ice cream parlor?
Plenty of parking for all RV’s. I’m sure the kids will like some of it. But would I go back again? Not until they do some housekeeping.
So great for our small children. The ladies in the old soda shop let the kids put on costumes and work behind the counter. It was a nice, quick stop for us!
Call before you go as they were not open when we wanted to go. It was really close to 2PM on Sunday so maybe they just had not gotten there yet.
