“fish, boat, hike or just star gaze”
Rainbow RV Resort on Tanwax Lake is nestled in the NW foothills of Mt. Rainier. We are a year-round full service RV park with great fishing facilities including a 170-foot handicap accessible dock, rental boats, fishing power and pontoons and many other great amenities. We are also an excellent home base for many area attractions including NW Trek Animal Preserve, Mt. Rainier, the Elbe Steam Train, Pt. Defiance Zoo and Aquarium and more. Proud Parents: Each year we raise 18,000 - 28,000 rainbow trout in our net pen. They are hand-fed and pampered until we release them before opening day the last weekend in April. On any visit to our park you may see deer grazing on the property, bald eagles flying about, an occasional heron, mink or otter around the lake and at night hear the wolves howling at NW trek.

Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on August 05, 2021We stayed here because it is close to our house and we were trying out our new RV. We are new to this part of the country and are still honing our preferred method of RVing.
The lake was nice and the people running the place were outstanding. Very friendly staff and made us feel welcome. If you are into fishing this place would be really great, but that is all there is to do outside. There isn't a swimming area in the lake. The spots are extremely close together and this seems like more of a fish camp experience than a family RV destination.
It was cheap(ish) to stay and they let us stay past our required check out time. They had good wifi if you were close to the main store. That being said, there were many guests smoking marijuana, drinking night and day, and guests constantly swearing and shouting loud enough to be heard 100s of feet away. So overall we appreciated the experience to help us shake down our new RV, but overall we won't be going back to this location as it is really not the kind of experience we are looking for when we camp.

This is a campground to be avoided:
Cleanliness:
There is trash all over campground and along the fence line. Cups, plastic bags, huge chunks of foam rubber… absolutely ridiculous. The community bathroom is completely filthy. Flies are everywhere and just a general grunge. Right in the middle of the campground is there storage for trash ( more flies but reasonable to expect) and sewer lines… why must this be in the middle of the campground.
Customer service:
The staff It’s clearly focused on making money and not maintaining the property (See above). You can use the dock to fish but only X number of times. You can use the community shower but only if you have quarters. The washers and dryer’s work but they are not well-maintained. I simply asked to move to a site closer to the main office in order to use the Wi-Fi and was unable to. That’s beside the fact that six sites stayed open much of the time I was there. Additionally There was a planned power outage. I asked why I wasn’t made aware of this when I made my reservations and or checked in and their response was “what would you do differently” and I suggested I might’ve stayed somewhere else had you been forthright with this information which they admitted to knowing weeks in advance.
Connectivity:
Let me be clear there is absolutely no cell phone reception. Therefore it’s required to use the Wi-Fi and while they have two routers my side was clearly right in the middle and would not work on either. See above as I tried to move sides to correct this and that was not allowed.
I would also offer to stay away if you were the parent of smaller children. Friday and Saturday night was basically a drunken block party. There was so much foul language that I couldn’t even allow my children to be outside. We believe that this is in concert with the campground that allows full-time residence where they do not have to move their camper and have the ability to build porches and what not.
Lastly and I guess this could’ve been put in customer service but the sites are right on top of one another. There is no room to extend an awning or even set up chairs.
So you can see it’s just a really bad campground and we’ve been on the road for over five months and I’ve seen a variety of campgrounds. This ranks in the bottom two.

Nice campground that's close to the water with RV spots, tents and even an onsite permanently parked RV for rent. One can easily enjoy fishing, boating, hiking, or just gazing at the stars here, with plenty
of amenities onsite including laundry, fire pits, kitchen etc.
