Reviews
This is an interesting little hike through a very long, very old tunnel. The railroad tracks are gone and floor is fairly smooth, but water is dripping from the ceiling and along the walls so a lot of the floor is also wet. The tunnel runs slightly uphill from East to West, so the cold air falling through the tunnel creates a very chilly breeze. On our visit on July 5th, 2017 the ambient air temperature was 70 degrees; the temperature in the East half of the tunnel was at least 20 degrees lower.
There is a small Ranger station with restrooms at the East entrance, but nothing but the continuation of the Iron Horse State Park Trail on the West side. Be sure to take a flashlight, a light jacket (for summer visits) and some water.
