Just stopped for one night because I wanted to be near Sand Creek Massacre Site. One pit toilet at the entrance was bad and I decided I’ll be using my van toilet. You can drive around on tracks to find decent parking spots. Mostly sand with some grass. The lake attracts some nice birds. Fresh deer tracks along the water but I didn’t see any. Only one other person here when I was and they were pulling their boat out ready to leave. Typical fisherman trash around but not too bad. Probably would stay here again unless I came to fish.

Second time through. In 2021 the lake was up another 10 feet. But it’s still down 50+ feet from full.
This year they mowed the weeds down from knee high.
There’s a couple of roads that run around the lake. A lighter vehicle would be better for them.
There’s a couple of flat areas down the concrete ramp. But it’s all sand so getting stuck can be a problem for heavy Riggs.
Still a good overnight spot.

Stayed 1 night, had no issues finding where to park. No hookups but cell signal was good and the sunset was beautiful so we had everything we needed!

Got the knock from a wildlife officer after being set up for about 3 hours. Felt kinda foolish since I obviously relied on some experts here that maybe I shouldn’t have!
He stated you must have either a current hunting or fishing license OR a current Colorado State Wildlife Area pass AND habitat stamp for the current year to stay at ANY Colorado State Wildlife area.
Since I’ve just started recovering from the flu and just got here, I purchased the annual out of state SWA pass and habitat stamp online (see photos).
I hope this helps others plan their trip! I sure would have helped me.
