“a year-round travel destination with a rich history”
Where Old West meets Southwest, Downtown Durango is a Nationally Registered Historic District and home to historic boutique hotels, award winning restaurants, laid-back brewpubs, and fabulous art galleries, museums, and shops. Many of the original buildings constructed and used by the area's pioneers can be found in this interesting and charming section of town that includes the grand Strater Hotel, built in 1887 and still in operation today.
Downtown is really nice. Wish we had more time in Durango. Was able to get some reasonably priced tshirts at Half Priced Tees.
Downtown Durango is totally cool. The main street is filled with everything from saloons to coffeeshops to upscale eateries, so there's something for everybody. Be sure and check out the coal-running train as it pulls out on its way to Silverton!
This was one of the stops for our Amazing Race trip with our family. We loved the rocky mountain chocolates. We enjoyed our short trolley ride. We window shopped and enjoyed seeing all of the local support!
Okay, I guess. We went during XMas. Not as s lit up or christmassy as you hope. We did not see any horse drawn sleigh rides and we were there twice both night and day. Stores close early. We were walking around at 7pm and if they were not already closed they were closing. The southern part near the train is best. The chocolate store is good. Chocolate and candy store like any other you have been in. The toy store is a joke. Not a kid you store. More for nerdy adults. The General Palmer and Started hotel are pretty. Just not the local jewell I hoped for.
