“A restaurant inside of a vintage railroad car”

The Dinner House and Lounge, built inside vintage railroad cars, is a museum in itself. Inside its antique cars is an atmosphere steeped in nostalgia. Antique hand tool, gauges, pictures, signal and other artifacts recall the glory days of railroading in the west and specifically the Dunsmuir and McCloud area. Above the bar is a hand built scale replica of the Southern Pacific Cascade, which once plied the rails between San Francisco and Portland. Enjoy your favorite cocktail or a specialty drink like the Golden Spike.  In warm months, relax on our patio deck and gaze up at the view of forbidding Castle Crags. Our Dinner House menu features exquisite Steaks, Seafood, Fish, Chicken and Pasta dishes.  Prime Rib on Friday and Saturdays.  Check the Oil Can Willie Specials sheet for exciting new dishes from Chef James. Reservations are recommended.  We welcome small and large parties up to 35.  All Aboard for a great dining experience.

This a very nice park. Like camping in a pine forest except with full hook-ups. Nice camp host who will guide you to your camp site. Clean bathrooms and free showers. Some dry sites, some with water and electric too.
The sites are a mix or gravel but some broken asphalt. They are aware of the condition of the asphalt road through the park are planning repairs. Castle Crags State Park is nearby that has nice hiking trails as well as great views of Mt. Shasta. The restaurant in the railroad car is always nice. Be sure to visit Yaks restaurant on the west side of highway 5. Great burgers, beers and world famous sticky buns.

We made online reservations to stay here for the week to get some work done. It was nice to be able to pick the site out online, because I made sure we were close enough to the office to get good wireless coverage and so if you're working and on the road, I would recommend this spot in particular. We didn't have any cell signal to speak of.

Dunsmuir is a tiny town but it wasn't hard to find the campsite. There a motel designed out of old railroad cabooses on the same property, with a restaurant as well.

Our site was nice and shaded and we could walk down to an awesome creek to cool of and have a great view of Castle Crags.

I do want to mention that though the website makes the motel and the rv park to be the same property, it's not really. So my dreams for swims in the pool were dashed pretty quickly. My fault for not doublechecking...but still.

We were making a quick run home from Oregon and decided to stop here. It was so nice to be nestled in the trees of this quiet place. While just off Hwy 5 it was very quiet. We were one of only 4 campsites filled in the park on this weeknight but even with it full it looked like you would not be feeling very cramped in at all since the sites are staggered and trees separate the sites.

Unique park with accompanying motel wherein the rooms are old railroad cabooses ... views of Castle Crags to west of park ... all sites have large trees ... good Wi-Fi and cable TV ... quiet park ... camp host, Dave, was very helpful ... some of the roads to the sites need better signs ... if the sites were further apart, and if bathrooms were upgraded, I would rate a 5

Stayed two nights at what should have been the start of the busy summer season, but was quiet due to COVID. The RV park and campground is a little further up the road from the main "resort" which is right of of I-5. Despite the close proximity to I-5 there is absolutely no road noise. Check-in was easy, just a posted list of guests and their sites. Sites are under tall fir trees and are not paved, leveling is required and could be challenging in some sites. Full hook ups, but the sewer inlet was raised above ground which made it difficult to use with our very low black tank dump tube. Bathrooms were closed due to COVID. Pool is at the motel part of the resort down the hill, but was closed due to COVID. The Pacific Crest trail is just across the stream from the campground so there is some nice hiking.

Not only is it special with heritage of railroad wagons and engines , views of castle crags state park peaks are beautiful from the Restaurant area . We had reasonably good internet connection with park network . AT&T and Verizon have 2 bar connection which was usable with WeBoost on our RV. 4G signal. 30A site which was pull through with sound of stream running in the back. There is a swimming hole next to restaurant if you cross the foot bridge . It was about 4-5 feet deep at the deepest and we felt safe to swim there .. would be nice to come back on a hot day. Location is close to Highway 5 exit 728.

When we hear the word "resort" we imagine chock-o-block sites with slideouts on big rigs 5' away from us. Just not our style... we were pleasantly surprised to see the campground was actually a campground and the fun little "resort" of old train cabooses and small cabins was a little walk away. The resort was rustic and incredibly cool to walk around the train cars and old train parts.
It was hot, so we reserved a hook up site (rare for us), but we wanted power. We found a nice pull through site online, drove in to the campground, found our name on a list, pulled in and we were set up. We could hear the creek from our site, had beautiful trees all around, no one in front of us, cooled off in the creek, enjoyed breakfast in the dining car in the morning, and had decent cell service. I think there was only 2 or 3 other sites taken - we stayed her late August, 2019. Would love to come back & just hang out for a few days. Easy access off the 5, but for some weird reason I had always pictured this on the other side of the freeway.

Very quiet although all sites were occupied because the USFS campgrounds were closed because of fire concerns. Restrooms were very clean. Sites were fairly well spaced out.

The staff is friendly and helpful. If you love the outdoors, this is the place for you. Lovely sound of running water, tall stately trees, campground clean. We will be coming back.

The place is beautiful and by a creek. I have 3 likes and 4 dislikes.

Likes:
1. Quiet
2. In the trees and you can hear the running water
3. By Castle Crag State Park

Dislikes:
1. Zero internet service
2. Bathrooms were under construction so no showers
3. Away from most outdoor activities and destinations.
4. Close proximity to neighbors

I don’t think we will be staying here again.
