We have stayed at Starvation a couple of times now. Our last time was in the full hook up section that sits on top of the bluff and is close to the boat ramp. It was great but there isn't a lot of shade and the sites are fairly close to each other.
This last outing was in the Indian Bay campground which is considered "primitive" camping. There are no hook ups but there are decent vault toilets. We ended up camping with a bunch of friends right on the beach and it was incredible. We didn't have a dedicated camp site number but there are a number of reservable sites that ring the lake and beach area and even more sites across the road with easy beach access. The dedicated sites looked to be fairly level with tables and fire rings. Still not a lot of shade but there are a lot of cedar tree's and brush around which adds to the more secluded nature of each site.
Starvation lake is a great clean lake with cool/cold water but still warm enough for some great boating, swimming etc......
I would visit here again and probably reserve one of the camp sites that ring the lake since the other beach area's are first come first serve only.

We stayed at the Lowe campground, also known as the Beach Campground. The two star rating was for proximity to the water. It was incredible! A short walk to the water, easy access for rafting and swimming. The first night was a Friday and it was quiet. Saturday was a different story. Kids everywhere, dogs running loose, wall to wall people. The sites are too close together and there's no privacy. The Beach Campground is right next to the day use beach. Because it was a holiday weekend, it was a super crowded to day users started mingling into the campground, plopping down wherever they felt like, including our campsite. No, not just the beach, but at our camp table! My husband got into it with a few men after he asked them to leave our site.
The staff was invisible, I think I saw them once. The campground became so crowded with vehicles it became a parking lot. It may be an enjoyable place during the week but we will not be going back.

We stayed here at the Indian Bay primitive area in mid-October. It was a Friday and as far as I could see we were the only ones there. There is a $5 day use fee to enter the park, however we arrived after hours and there was nobody staffing the gate and nowhere to leave $. There was a vault toilet and picnic tables, but not much else. There are full hook-up campgrounds elsewhere on the lake. We used this is a stopover as we wanted to enter 9 Mile Canyon from the north near Myton.

It looks like Starvation State Park is now called Fred Hayes State Park at Starvation. There are actually six (!) campgrounds in the state park: Mountain View and Lower Beach are developed campgrounds with hook-ups; Indian Bay, Rabbit Gulch, Juniper Point and Knight Hollow are primitive. We scoped out Mountain View and Lower Beach and had intended to stay at Lower Beach until we saw that the entire beach area was posted “No Dogs”. Well that sucks, puppy wants to play too!

We instead opted for Indian Bay and scored a huge site (#2) with (unposted) lake access. We were, in fact, the only people in the entire campground! After weathering a brief thunderstorm, we enjoyed our stay with beautiful views of the lake and surrounding hills. Our site had a gravel parking surface, picnic table and firepit. There were bathrooms and a garbage dumpster nearby. Site quality varied and you’ll want to scout if you’re in a larger rig – many of the sites looked small or sloped and some looked pretty sandy.

We had 4 bars of Verizon 4G.

As another reviewer mentioned this is no longer Starvation State Park. It has been Fred Hays State Park at Starvation (reservoir) for about two years. I decided to stay in the Mountain View campground hoping there would be fewer insects which I have experienced near water. I was given a pull through at my request number 28. There’s water and power. The site is almost level. There’s a picnic table with pavilion cover and fire ring. There’s a large bath facility which I believe I’ll have showers although I didn’t use any.

Thought this campground was great, we stayed at the Mountain View area and there is a nest of Osprey with 2 babies you can watch from your site. Nice showers, great view, really no issues.

One night stopover. Didn’t have reservations but lots of open sites. There are 2 sections - Mountain View and lakeside. 13k foot mountains in the distance, beautiful lake. Many of the other folks here have boats so likely good fishing. Clean, staff are friendly and helpful. Would stay here again

This campground was clean and has everything you need. Water, electric, dump, showers, etc. People who stay here have boats/jet skis, so the campground feels pretty cluttered and tight. Sites are close together. Family friendly, which is great but there were lots of kids running around at all hours of the day/night.
