“not far from the 2nd largest Jackalope”
Allegedly one of the world’s largest jackalope. In honor of Wyoming's most elusive animal, Douglas Wyoming has erected a statue of the hybrid creature. Why Douglas, you ask? The creator of the Jackalope, Douglas Herrick, lived in Casper Wyoming, but his hometown was Douglas. Herrick died at the age of 82 in January of 2003 after making hundreds of Jackalopes. He was such an influential figure in the forming of the legend of the west, the New York Times wrote an extended obituary.
Who doesn't like jackalopes? I think that it is debatable whether or not this one is larger than the "Second Largest Jackalope." I suppose this one is if you count the height of the base. The statue is not actually located where it's shown on the map. You'll find it in a park on the SW corner of Center and 3rd.
Cute stop for kids to run around and pictures! There is a canopy area for shade to eat lunch as well (no seating so we used a blanket).
We were there midday and did not see one person so we also let our dogs off leash to run around as well!
Cute little stop.
Worlds largest?? Maybe, doubtful but maybe. Road trip cliche?? Definitely. But worth it for sure!
Cute stop with info booth about jackalopes. After the statue, head to Friendz for pizza.
Was not located where it says. We did find it in a park. Not sure about worlds largest claim but fun for a picture or two.
