“spruce glades and rolling natural terrain”
In the twenty-first century, ski resorts are not built with tinker toy towers, Army surplus generators, and a wing and a prayer. In the mid-1940s, when skiing had all the appeal of a deep freeze, convincing investors that there was great fun in the snow on the snowy slopes of the Continental Divide, was a hard sell at best. Nonetheless, a hearty group of pioneers sold stock, cut down trees, put up "lifts" and voila – a legend was born. Arapahoe Basin opened in December of 1946 with help from Larry Jump and his directors including Max and Edna Dercum. The inaugural season opened with a single rope tow and $1.25 daily lift tickets. Now at 66 years strong, A-Basin is just hitting its stride. Elevate your experience this winter by skiing or riding A-Basin! Come shred the rocky steeps, spruce glades and rolling natural terrain that's made us "The Legend" in Summit County. Arapahoe Basin (A-Basin, "The Legend") is located in Summit County, Colorado, on the Continental Divide. A-Basin boasts the longest ski and ride season in North America with over 350" of annual snowfall. Guests experience skiing, snowboarding and telemarking on some of Colorado's best ski terrain from October through June. Our Snowsports School offers adult, child and group lessons for beginners, intermediate and expert skiers and snowboarders. Our telemark, youth and women's-specific programs ensure that riders of all abilities can enjoy our 960 acres of high-altitude runs. With the addition of Montezuma Bowl, there are more steeps, glades, chutes, groomed runs and powder to play in. Pick up a season pass when you book your Colorado ski vacation, or visit tickets.arapahoebasin.com for the lowest single-day lift ticket pricing. While you’re here, be sure to check out all the events, concerts and picnics that Black Mountain Lodge, 6th Alley Bar and our famous Beach have to offer. The high speed quad chairlift, Black Mountain Express, will give you access to the mountain and its three terrain parks, and the famous Pallavicini lift will take you to some of the state's most challenging runs. Located just 68 miles west of Denver on Hwy 6/Loveland Pass (minutes away from Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Loveland, Vail, Silverthorne and Dillon), A-Basin ranks #1 in Mom and Pop ski areas (skiresorts.com) and top 10 in value and scenery (Ski Magazine). Use your Keystone or Breckenridge lift ticket here! This winter, elevate your experience at Arapahoe Basin.
A-Basin is one of my favorite mountains in Colorado, even though I broke my leg there in 1981. The terrain is stunningly beautiful, but notably more challenging that the typical resort style ski... Read more
Whenever I visit Colorado, I make sure to hit A Bay as many times as possible. Although I only get a few days with the Ikon pass, that limited use makes those visits even better. Arapahoe Basin... Read more
