Confirmed by 4 users | Last reported on May 28, 2024I haven't actually camped here yet. I just went in for a hike and to check out the sites. I was looking for a nice park with shade to camp with friends and this is perfect because it has screened in shelters so my friends without tents can stay there! The park truly has something for everyone with shelters (water only), walk in tent sites, pull through rv sites and back in sites. I walked the trail that includes a foray into a "beach". The lake is huge, perfect coves for kayak/canoe, and open water for all size boats. Beautiful white cliffs overlook the lake and the trails are up above the water and cliffs. Once I camp I will post pics. Oh, and it is a little more than an hour from Dallas and all that has to offer.
I went back and camped on a glorious weekend. I got site 179 which was absolutely amazing! On a cliff overlooking water on three sides! It is not preferred for kids, those cliffs would make me nervous with little ones, but was perfect for me and 3 friends. The park has a really nice swimming area, in a protected cove with a nice cave to explore. I saw lots of families enjoying the little beach and clear water. My friend, who is Israeli and traveled the world, commented that she felt like she was on the Riviera sitting on the cliff watching sailboats and yachts go by. I highly recommend this state park!

Really nice park, but almost empty when we were there, Sept 12, 2017. Odd fee structure, $20 for a water/electric site, plus $5 each for access for two adults. These is a park I would love to just hang out at for a week or so. Lots to see, but we had no time to see it. The facilities were clean and the shower was great.

I anticipated that state park of the fourth largest lake in Texas would be a great setup. We were promised by the woman at the front gate that site #84 was close to the water, albeit a scramble down the hill. Well, there was heavy brush behind the site that was 500 feet across two roads from the boat ramp. We were so disappointed and drove around the other full hook up sites but none had any better views or access. The site was not very level and was down an incline that made hitching and unhitching most difficult. I've read that you can change sites easily but there really wasn't any point. If the park would clear brush away to give move view of the lake that would be great. The beach is a tiny thing, not worth the drive for itself. There are hollowed out crevices like small caves that were interesting along the cove containing the beach, and fallen boulders that entertained my son for a little while. Site 179 (tent only) was the most remote with a view of the beach below through a wire fence. The park itself is really not bad, but if you come for the fishing or relaxing views it's not the best destination. If you have a boat to put in I'd imagine it would be worth the trip. Wood can be purchased for .50 a stick at the office and gift shop is limited without groceries. The trails are nice but did not make the trip worth it.

We certainly enjoyed our trip! They were understaffed at check in and the person wasn't very knowledgeable about the sites. The original site we chose turned out to be a tent site and we have an 18ft trailer. It all worked out fine as there were plenty of open sites at that time.

I spent two night camping here. I had high hopes for fun and adventure but ended up with disappointment.
The main issue that I have with this park is the fact that it is so hard to get to the water. The only place where I could have easy access to the water was at the boat ramp or the many floating boat docks and fishing was not allowed in most of those locations. getting down to the swimming area was a real hike and there was quite a crowd in the little cove.
Site 22 does have a trail that goes down to the water but for me it was very difficult to navigate.
I have posted my video tours of Eisenhower State Park in the blog section.

This was our first time to stay here. We were here in Aug & a pair of road runners were building a nest in the trees over our site! I was surprised by that an asked a ranger. He said that is how & where they nest. We enjoyed our mornings drinking coffee & watching the pair work.
We stayed in a water & electric site (required for HOT TX summer) but the park also has primitive, water only, and full hookup sites.
The entire park is on a bluff... while you are surrounded by a gorgeous lake, there are only 2 places you do not have to climb to reach the water (boat launch & 1 of the fishing piers has a ramp down to it.)
We did enjoy our visit to Eisenhower's birthplace. It is worth a stop. It is free, donations accepted.

my pad could have been more level and could have had more shade but overall was more than adequate. It's hot here in June and I ran my AC 24/7. And welcome to summer time in North Texas..... chiggers everywhere. I showed up on a Saturday and the place was packed but it emptied out on Sunday and for the next five days the park was sparsely populated. The grounds are well kept. Internet connectivity was very slow. The shower was great.

The Texoma area is a huge "lake life" area spanning eight counties on both sides of the Texas/Oklahoma border. Eisenhower State Park is a beautiful Texas park on the south side of Lake Texoma and provides excellent access to the lake and the surrounding Denison/Sherman area. The park itself is secluded and quiet. Power and water are good. Fairly level sites. While there is a full-hookup campground within the park it was closed for construction while we were there. We stayed on site 22 for the first three days and then decided to extend for another 3 days. However, there were no sites available because it was the weekend. After looking everywhere for a site for us, the ranger said we could stay on the emergency overflow site 39. It was a large site that we really enjoyed. Verizon 4G/LTE was excellent.

I love this park. It is beautiful. I stayed in site #2 and I did not hear any traffic after dark. Very peaceful the entire time I was there. Very nice bathroom/shower. The dam is also amazing.
