I stayed here one night on the way from Phoenix to Albuquerque. Small (22 sites) but great setting. Site 21 was very isolated from the other sites.
Access is down a short dirt road and the entire campground was dirt roads with dirt sites. Each site had a covered picnic table. Drinking water available, but no dump station.
There isn't any civilization around, so don't plan on going down the road for groceries! :)
Close to the VLA (Very Large Array), which is well worth the stopover.
3 miles of hiking trails that offer great views of the surrounding area.
Stayed there April 2014 and got very strong 3G Verizon signal.

This campground is quiet and peaceful. Only 2 other campers here and there was about 4 miles of hiking trails that were great for hiking with a dog. Only 3G Verizon service but it suited my needs. NOTE: due to limited financing, the drinking water is turned off. Not sure if they are going to put it on this spring/summer or not, but come with a full FW Tank. Bathrooms (toilets only) were clean. I didn't have to level side to side but a little adjustment front to back. Site #22 is particularly long and would fit any rig.

Datil Well is a nice little campground. The campsites varied in shape, size and level. With ours, we only needed to go up on one block and were able to stay hitched up and were completely level.
With a booster we were able to get cell service up to 2 bars of 3G, but it wasn't anything I'd want to use for a week.

We stayed here on our visit to the Very Large Array (awesome!). Not much else around so very pleased to have a cheap, cozy BLM campground all to ourselves. Bathrooms were very clean. No hook ups. Not much in the way of supplies etc around though there is a gas station / diner about five miles away (gotta catch them when they are open). We woke up to snow, which was a not unpleasant surprise, but nonetheless...had no trouble getting out and back on the (plowed) main road. Had no cell service for AT&T.

This is an absolute hidden gem. 1st off I was lucky enough to score a reservation on a Wednesday afternoon for a sat and sun night stay. 2nd off the campsite was all that AND MORE. The vault toilet was impeccable and we had 3 charcoal grills to choose from, 1 that had a side table for serving. The hosts came by each afternoon to collect the trash. We are so thankful we had the chance to stay here.

We were traveling US60 to Canyon De Chelly. We stop at Datil Well for overnight. Wow--what a gem this was. Only $2.50 per night(senior) BLM. This was a clean campground with vault toilets , there were very clean. We hiked 2 miles to overlook with scenic views passing pine woodland with good vistas and wildlife. We have AT&T phone but no service here. This is a remote facility so come in with supplies. The Host were good to work with and kept the park up. Quiet and peaceful.

Stopped here traveling from Winslow to Cloudcroft in early October. Beautiful weather, very clean, with water and internet at the small shed at the entrance. We were greated by Teresa, and Carlos the camp hosts. They were very friendly, and accommodating! We have a 30 foot class A towing a small vehicle, no issues navigating the site road. Several pull through sites, little tough to level but made it ok. Great BLM site!

This campground is a real hidden treasure. I don't think I have seen such a clean well cared for campground in quite a while. The newer vault toilets were immaculate and even had hand sanitizer dispensers that were full! The sites are well maintained and far enough apart that you feel a real sense of privacy. We shared this trip with a neighborhood couple who stayed in site 8. The pads were not nearly level, so a bit of blocking was needed to level our trailers. The views are spectacular and the nearby 3.5 mile hiking trail was also worth doing. The water had been turned off but nearby is the Eagle Guest Ranch complex and they will sell you water for .08 per gallon. Be warned, they're aren't any places convenient to fill your gas tanks so do so when you have a chance.

Beautiful, well-kept little campground with great hosts (Carlos and Theresa). The biggest surprise was how clean the restrooms were. Have you ever been in pit toilets that smelled good? Me either, until I stayed here.... Carlos claimed that Theresa was the one who knew the secret to the great smelling toilets.
Larger rigs are going to have a more difficult time finding a site level enough and large enough to set up in. Those sites are very limited for larger rigs but smaller RV's will have no problem. In a perfect world, the smaller rigs would leave the bigger sites for larger RV's.... in a perfect world. But, when I was there it was first come, first served and choose your favorite site. My 35' class A was limited in sites, but did find one that worked OK for me. Cost was $5/day, or half that with a seniors card.
No hookups, but water is available from hydrants throughout the park, and picnic tables are provided. There is Wi-Fi and a nice little book exchange at the entrance of the CG. This was my only way to communicate since there was NO signal on Consumer Cellular which operates on some AT&T towers. Others have mentioned the VLA and hiking trails available. The VLA is a very interesting afternoon trip not to be missed.
This CG is also a very good place to just sit under the awning and read, or take a nap!

Agree the host is outstanding at her job! Spotless vault toilets. Excellent well signed trails lead from the campground. Sweet visitor info center with lending library. Don't forget to visit The Gathering Place in Pie Town for a sweet treat if you are heading west.
