“dedicated to celebrating the heritage of railroads”
Founded in 1963, the Museum of the American Railroad is a not-for-profit Texas corporation dedicated to celebrating the heritage and exploring the future of railroads through historic preservation, research, and educational programming. The museum collects artifacts and archival material from the railroad industry to exhibit and interpret their significance in American life and culture. Exhibits and general programs are provided year-round. Educational programs are available to local schools and universities through study trips, in-class programming & outreach, and online resources. The Museum has embarked on its most ambitious project to date, the relocation of collections and operations from Dallas’ Fair Park to Frisco, Texas – a suburb 30 miles to the north. The 1.8 acre Fair Park location was closed in November of 2011 to prepare the historic structures and rolling stock for movement. The Frisco site is currently under construction. The Museum currently maintains interim offices, exhibits, and retail at the Frisco Heritage Museum located a few hundred yards north of the new, permanent site.
