Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on May 01, 2023We arrived at the reservoir August 2015 and toured the Haystack Reservoir Campground and Day Use Area on the E shore, but there wasn't a whole lot of shade and no green grass, so we went back to the West Shore Campground. Surprised there was only one other site that was being used (mid-week), we found one of the few that had a shade tree and snagged it. We noticed some mosquitoes while setting up (tent, camp stove, etc.) and having dinner, but we were swarmed after sunset and had to duck into our tent. The lake was peaceful, even seeing a crane across the lake, and the colors of the rocks during sunset were beautiful.
Cell coverage - it's been a couple of years since we stayed and I don't recall the signal strength.

This “RV park” is basically a parking lot with a few feet of space between the site. It’s all black top with one row of RV site facing the lake. The only upside is that you get to Lakeside view but you’re 5 feet from your neighbor with one tree in between. Haystack East 2 miles down the road is so much prettier and more private. This campground, along with the North and South areas, is now run by the local county. Great spot if just looking for a place to lay your head on a pillow for the night. Easy and well marked access off Route 97. Spots 1-9 are smaller and probably won’t fit anything bigger than 30’. Spots 10-15 are the largest spots and we had no trouble fitting a 32’ 5th wheel and truck without unhooking.

Stopped here on our way to Klamath Falls Oregon. Camping is open till end of October. Spaces in the higher numbers are wider and deeper. We stayed in sites 11 and 12. Both 35 ft 5th wheels we did not need to unhook. Clean, quiet. 15.00 a night. No hookups or dump station. Beats the KOA down the road for 60 bucks and packed in. Camp host says the fishing is excellent here. Good Verizon 44 TV channels.

We had a great time. We came the end of April on a nice warm weekend. Watched the Osprey fish, folks kayak on the lake and our 5th wheel had plenty of room in our extra wide blacktop spot #12. Bob the camp host was awesome to us and we checked out the other campgrounds too. The scenery was beautiful and everyone was having fun.
Our Verizon cell service worked perfectly, with two and three bars depending on location. The site was level, had a fire pit and a heavy duty picnic table. They do not take our golden pass but we don’t mind and will absolutely be back.
The group sites near us were ver scenic and the other campground looked a bit tight for our large unit.

We pulled in here after visiting Crater Lake National Park. There’s only one other camper here tonight. All of the sites are paved, flat, and border the reservoir. Pit toilets are clean as is everything else. No campground host, just self check in.
