Confirmed by 2 users | Last reported on September 22, 2019Haystack Campground is an average campground. Our site, number 2, was on the upper level which did have a nice view of Mt. Jefferson. The spacing is generous between most sites. Our site had one relatively close neighbor. Site 2 is the best site on the upper level. Other upper level sites do not have a good view of the mountains. There were two nice sites on the lower level by the lake. Site 23 is a pull-through that is very private with a great view of Mt. Jefferson and the lake. This is the best site in the campground. Site 17 is also a nice pull-through by the water.
We like to have hiking trails nearby when we camp. Haystack didn't have hiking trails. There wasn't even a trail around the lake. The campground is located in the Crooked River National Grassland, but there was a barbed wire fence just off the road in the campground. We didn't know if it was public or private land on the other side of the fence.
This is not the most quiet campground that we have stay at, but not excessively noisy either. There is a farm nearby, so you may hear cows. The cows were a nice sound. If motor noises bother you, there are motorboats on the lake and there is a train track close enough to hear the train horn, but not the train engine.
This campground is best suited for folks who want to take their boat on the lake or go fishing.
Our Verizon cell signal was mostly 1X with and occasional 4G connection. We did get a consistent 4G connection with our amplifier and external antenna.

This place was beautiful. Roomie sites, some pull-through a with plenty of trees for privacy. Each site had a picnic table and fire ring/barbecue. Sites were fairly level and most had a view of the lake. There are bathrooms scattered about. Would definitely stay again.

We are in a 36’ class A pulling a Jeep so have to go with the flow! Got a great site along the lake although it’s a little bit of a walk to the shoreline but very doable. $15 per night and great cell signal (att) and satellite usage. Beautiful views and quiet!

We made reservations and picked a site based on their map. It was not evident how tight the curve of the site was and even though it was 50 feet long the curve and grade was so serve we could not level or disconnect or truck. There were a few other sites such as 17 that we straight but to level would require 4 or 5 block and make the stairs about 12 inches from the roadway. The other issue was mosquitoes we stopped at the water station on the way in to fill up and my legs were covered in mosquitoes in minutes. We thought it might just be there near the water but when we checked out site 17 there were mosquitoes there as well. Most of the other sites were either to short and or at to great an angle to work for us. So We left and found another campground.
Other than that the campground appeared clean and well maintained

Good for small RVs and tents. The sites are small. There are a couple bigger sites but most are small and a bit steep. The reservoir is very low and it’s quite hot this time of year. There is trash that needs to be picked up.
