“small time diner with big time taste”

Unpretentious is an understatement... A good old fashioned 'joint' or 'dive' would describe the decor. Don't be fooled though. This place has great food, in large portions and a down home friendly staff to ensure you enjoy your visit. Prices are unbelievably low too, so if you are low on funds but still have a heavy hunger, don't be shy, and stop on by!

I was driving through the area returning home from some business and wanted to stop for lunch and fast food just didn't appeal to me. So used and app called roadtrippers to look for a hidden gem. I found one.

The place looks old and the sign out front made me wonder. I thought to myself "Hey those are just the book covers, right?"

Inside is basic but comfortable. The menu and weekly specials are posted near the door so you can plan your return.

The service was very friendly and fast. I was seated ordered and had my food within 7 minutes. Now the lunch rush was over in fact right after I left they closed till dinner but something tells me speed is important to them.

The decor is like the food old fashioned southern. This was the kind of meal my grandmother my grandmother might make for me when I was a kid if I had to be at her home for the evening. A real treat. The beans and the gravy had just the right amount of salt. The potatoes were creamy with just a few lumps so you know they are real and the chicken fried steak was done perfectly.

They included a basket of cornbread as well. It was a bit dry but again I think that was due to my arriving so late. A little bit of butter was all they needed.

Another thing they are know for is their pie. They have quite a selection of fresh made pie. Being I was there in November I wanted pumpkin but of course they were out so I had a coconut meringue. Oh man was it good. I've never had pie so loaded with fluffy meringue.

Anyhow if you live there you have no excuse not to go. If you're driving down I-40 and want to stretch your legs and have a bite this is the place to go.
