I don't know if it's a suggested donation or not, a campground host snuck up on me and, handing me an official looking envelope, asked for $10.
"It's only $5 if you don't use a picnic table," he confirmed.
We made it down the road without issue in our big ol' van. People had some smal trailers. Just take it slow.
Though a few bars showed up on AT&T and Verizon, they didn't actually deliver any connection. Lots of people here so that's why.
There are free spots all up and down this road, before here, and even more afterwards. The very end of this road is the key spot. ;)
I particularly liked the spot we got as there was about a face cord of wood left behind by the previous campers. Made for a good afternoon of chopping and enough burn to fight off the rain that teased us all night.

It’s worth of note that the 10$ fee per night is now mandatory, not donation based anymore.
Not sure what the campground host is there for, not very helpful or engaged.
Pit toilets are clean.
Had 2 bigger groups of teenagers there hence it was a bit noisy but not too bad.

Oh Be Joyful has transformed from my experience there years ago. The road down to the camp is still horrible in spots but if you take it slow it is manageable. Great access to the Slate river for kids playing and for fishing. The camp host “Dana” there this summer is great. There were lots of families there and our kids had a blast. It is fairly close to town by bike or car.

The road to the campground was constant washboard. The road going into the campground had huge ruts with large rocks. The campground is all reservable! So if you don’t have a reservation don’t bother. The camp host was not there to answer any questions. There are only maybe 7 sites to accommodate an rv. The remaining sites are walk in tent sites.

Don't be put off by the road down in. It's a little rough going down but you're rewarded with a nice large gravelled area to park or camp. I pulled in with my Ford TC about 5pm and found a great spot next to the river. The place wasn't crowded at all (weekday). Someone had put in a new fire ring and left a bunch of cut wood right there by the river and as I looked around I saw some stacks in other places as well. There are some great tent spots in the woods next to the river too. All in all you couldn't find a better place to camp unless you're looking for something very secluded. It does get cold at night here, this morn July 7th was 36 when I awoke.

We went down to take a look at the campground and barely made it down the road in a Jeep! But once down there are a number of tent spots. We did see one large Class C and don't know how he made it down the road!
The prices are $5 no picnic table, $10 with.
You are able to drive through the river and camp on the other side. Looks like a fun place play in the river and relax.

Just to update information already given here July 12 2017
There is now a charge , it's either a 5 dollar per night without the provided camping table or 10 dollars with , well worth it.
The dirt road leading down to the site has been worked on and is actually pretty smooth , any vehicle can do it.
Two porta potties on site.
