The Sprice Ridge Trail offers glimpses of Diamond Lake, Mt. Thielsen and Mt. Bailey as it traverses through lodgepole pine, mountain hemlock and true fir stands. A horse corral and horse rental concession are located at the Howlock Mountain Trailhead. The trail is popular with Nordic skiers during the winter and mountain bikers during the summer. This trail connects Howlock Mountain Trail #1448 with Mount Thielsen Trail #1456. Directions from Prospect: North End) Travel north on Highway 230 to its junction with Highway 138. Continue on 138 and turn west onto Road 4795, the north entrance to Diamond Lake Recreation Area. Proceed .3 miles to the Howlock Mountain Trailhead on the left. The Spruce Ridge Trail takes off to the right 1.7 miles into the Howlock Mountain Trail. Parking and vault toilet are available year-round at the trailhead. South End) Travel northeast on Highway 230, 1.5 miles north of the Highway 230/Highway 138 junction near Diamond Lake. The Mt. Thielsen Trailhead parking lot is on the east side of Highway 138.
