Confirmed by 3 users | Last reported on August 21, 2021Close to Crescent City but still in the heart of the majestic Jedediah Smith Redwood National Forest, this park offers full hookups, a central grassy area, and great picnic tables with a view of the surrounding giant trees. It is in the tiny town of Hiouchi right on Hwy 199.
Our check-in was so easy and helpful. We were steered to the most amazing places to see the best the area has to offer: the area's largest old growth Redwood, Stout Grove driving trip, and where to get out and let the dogs run.
From Crescent City (about 10 minutes away) you can either head north along Hwy 101 to the beautiful Southern Oregon coast, or experience the rugged California coast to the south.
Other options in the area are Redwood RV which has beautiful full hookup sites under your own Redwood, but there are only 5 sites and they are usually full. The Jedediah Smith Campground is beautiful, too; but we couldn't find it easily. A day trip showed us how beautiful this National Park Campground really is.
The place is run down to an extreme. This is too bad because the location is fantastic.
Facilities are extremely dated. Shower stalls are moldy and cruddy. Restrooms are in need of a lot of TLC. Wifi is useless. Grounds are in need of basic landscape.
But there is hope. This park has recently changed hands and the new owners are committed to bring it back up to resort standards.
I would avoid for the next 6 months and check back to see how much progress they have made.

We stayed here so we would be reasonably close to the Redwoods attractions. We were able to get a campsite without reservations, which was a surprise to me. Lots of the other campgrounds in the Crescent City area were full. Their regular price seemed a little steep, but they were running 20% discount for Father's Day, so that helped take some of the sting out. Our site actually had a small stream flowing near it, so that made it quite enjoyable to sit outside under the awning. They do have some sites without sewer hookup, and a nice dump station if that is what you do. This was an easy check-in, easy pull through spot, good water pressure, and they had cable TV connection with about 60 channels. The people in the office were friendly and informative on what to do in the area. We didn't check out the onsite showers nor the laundry room, but everything else seemed very modern and nicely maintained. Our area of the park lost power the morning before we checked out, but they got it back on after about an hour. We didn't ask what had happened, but noticed that there were some tree trimmers working in an area of nearby power lines, so it was probably turned off as a precaution. This park is located along Highway 199, so we could often hear traffic going by. Not noisy enough to bother though. We camped in our 29' toy hauler, and we would definitely stay here again.

It's a good location, but zero privacy and in my opinion way overpriced. Better than a lot of others in the area looking around though. Right in the highway without even a tree to block the sound or view

Loud campground, we stayed right beside the store with the fence in between us. A chainlink fence. We got to see everyone stop and pump gas and use their restroom. That restroom runs out of hand towels fast. I heard a lot of that. Everyone in crescent city has removed their muffler also. Its loud. Very close to the road. Campground needs improved as in site quality. The bathrooms are nice. We had to request a fire pit. However if yo dont have one you can just pile up some rocks and make a fire ring, which we were directed to do. Do not plan on quietness or privacy. However you are very close to the redwoods. If you can live with the other stuff stay here. Also go to Seaquake brewing and try the tacos.

We arrived at Redwood Meadows RVP on July 14, 2021. Our site was a level dirt pad, with 90 degree back-in off a narrow approach road. Site opposite was already occupied so getting 27' TT in was dicey. (Not just me; next night I listened to guest who spent 1/2 hr. getting his 20' Airstream parked across the way.) A busy park, with many screaming kids on bikes and scooters. Poor Verizon connectivity, and the park wifi was WORSE than having none at all. An unencrypted wifi connection was supposed to bring up a logon screen. But from our site, that always failed, so we were left without internet access but having our devices exposed to everyone on the LAN. "Oh yeah, you have to come up to the office" to get access to the logon. That worked for me, but leaving the park dropped the connection, so... start over. Ugh! But, we came here to see REDWOODS, and see them we did! Walking among these silent giants, through an undergrowth of ferns, is an experience like no other I have ever had.

Not sure about the negative reviews. This is a great place to spend a few nights. Full hookups, clean bathrooms, laundry, friendly staff. We had a leak on the hose bib and I walked to the office to let the office know. By the time I got back to my trailer the maintenance guy was there fixing it. A17 is close to highway 199 but there wasn’t much noise at night. We will be back and stay longer. The WiFi was not secured so we just used our phone hotspots. Great coverage for t mobile.

Nice enough spot, barely large enough for our 28 foot trailer and truck, though. Wifi kept dropping, and repeated trips to office for a new "code." Quiet, and facilities were clean. 1-2 bars with Verizon and a cell booster.
The biggest complaint I have is, not with the park so much, as the surroundings. We booked here in order to tour the Jedidiah Smith Redwoods State Park. Well, we did that, but while on a short 5 minute hike away from the locked truck, the known local meth heads stole my purse, wallet, drivers license, and bank card. Fortunately, something interrupted them and they didn't get everything. I left my purse in the truck, half shoved under the passenger seat, so yeah, that's on me. Lesson learned. Crescent City is a nightmare. Homeless and tented everywhere. Park ranger who took my report said that he knows the thieves; it happens frequently, but no penalties in California. Be careful if you come. In spite of, the trees were absolutely fantastic.
