“Experience the Sea!”
Ocean World aquarium is privately owned and operated and has been in Crescent City since 1964. Originally Ocean World was called Under Sea Gardens and was located in the small boat basin. It was a barge that was built in Seattle as an aquarium and floated down to Crescent City and rested in the harbor. Visitors would descend below the surface of the water to observation windows to view the sea life. In 1985 the barge was moved to dry land and took on a new life as Undersea World aquarium. The aquarium now consists of tanks holding over half a million gallons and an abundance of sea life, including sharks, seals, sea lions, rays and wolf eels. Now with a name change to Ocean World and added attractions of shark petting, interactive tide pool, and a highflying sea lion performance, we have something for the whole family.
Great place to bring a family! Hands on, great information. Worth the $10 to go!
Very dedicated staff treat animals and facility very well. From hands on to up close with ocean life. The seal and sea lion show at the end displayed the sounds and capabilities of these animals. Great stop.
Covid controls advertised on website are a lie. Management didn’t even offer a refund when our supposedly safe tour was not even close. They whined that the people were claiming to be vaccinated. With Idaho plates in the parking lot and more customers maskless or wearing chin diapers than not, that is the saddest excuse for false advertising ever.
Unless you are vaccinated or stupid stay away till Covid is over. And even then think twice. Who knows how safe the rest of their shit is. They clearly don’t give a shit about people. Hopefully they treat their animals better.
Pleasantly surprised to find this place still open and offering tours during COVID. I wish they would have shrunk the tour size, but luckily there is enough room to keep a fair distance and still hear the guide. They have a touch tank with sea stars & anemones, an under water viewing area, and a shark petting tank. But the grand finale was the best- Cora the Sea-lion does tricks for the crowd, and we got to meet Marina, who is America’s oldest seal! Apparently she is 41 years old and the world record is 43. The keeper told us “she doesn’t do much anymore, but she’s cute so we just give her fish!”
Such a great place for whole family. Very hands on for kiddos and prices in gift shop won’t kill your vacation funds.
Great place to visit. Very interactive for kids. Go in the morning for small you groups to get more out of it!
Excellent smaller aquarium! Very reasonable admission, hands on tide pool, you get to pet a leopard shark, and there is a seal and sea lion show at the end. Definitely recommend, especially if you have kids.
My 8 year old can't stop talking about the seals and sea lion show...really a cute little aquarium and worth a stop! Great stop while in the redwoods! Doesn't take very long, so definitely squeeze it in.
