It was primarily a calvary location but during WWII was a training site for Glider Aircraft for the Army Aircorp. It had a well known medical facility and one of its most famous Doctors was Walter Reed. In the 1880’s it was also the home for the famed Buffalo Soldiers of the 9th Calvary.
There are three RV campgrounds. One is for those that have horses and they can board their horses in the former Army Stables.
Red Cloud campground is full service with 50/30/20, water and sewer at each campsite.
Soldier Creek has 30/20 electric only sites.
There is also a tent only area.
Only 50% of the camp sites take reservations and when I was there the week before July 4th on a Saturday there was probably 25% of the sites available.
Sites are a mixture of open with little shade to fully covered by mature trees.
Rates are $20 for the electric only and $26 for the full service sites.
There is lots to do at the fort. They have 2 museums, though the entire Fort is a museum. There are horse rides, carriage rides, a playhouse during the summer with entertainment, a good restaurant from breakfast thru dinner. Rooms and cabins available in the former barracks and officers quarters. Lots of hiking.
Take the scenic road, just west of the park on the north side of US 20. It winds through the hills and I saw bison and long horn sheep on the drive.

If you're crossing Nebraska, Rt 20 is a much more interesting road than I-80 -- and along Rt 20 you literally can't miss Fort Robinson, since the road goes right through it.
This is a nice spot. One loop has nicely spaced sites with some shade and electric hookups, while the other loop has no shade but offers more hookup amenities.
Lots to explore in the immediate area, as the other reviewer noted. The only problem we had was arriving late. After 6:00 pm there is no way to register for a campsite and the phone is not answered. We just hunted for an empty site without a reservation tag, and went to the office in the morning.

Great State Park with so much history, and so many activities, and super friendly people. Plan on spending multiple days to take it in.
Site 54 had sun in the morning but shade in the afternoon which made it nice. Most of the sites on that row would be the same.

$20 plus $8 for the park pass for Soldiers CG. Sites are packed in like a cheap RV park and right next to the highway. The loops are small though most large rigs could find a site. Check in at the office which is across the highway. Stayed here after labor day so not many neighbors. Could not imagine staying here when it's busy. I'm not reviewing the park, just the campground. The park is interesting...

This is a nice state park. We stayed in the section that had full hook-ups. But the cost is a major downside. By the time you purchase a Nebraska Park sticker for the motorhome and a second sticker for the car, it came to $50 a night. That is pretty pricey for an ordinary state park. Someone would have to really persuade me to spend that kind of money again for a one time visit to a Nebraska state park.
Still, we enjoyed our time here. We visited the local fossil sites. We walked around the grounds, but didn't pay for any of the museums.
Verizon worked well with an external MiMo antenna on my Jetpack. I received some over the air TV channels.

The park charges $20 for electric hook-ups. This would be OK but they also charge you $7/day for your tow car. We could have stayed at a local RV park with full hook ups cheaper. It rained while we were here and the dump station was under water. When I talked to the about the issue he seemed indifferent. Another camper said the station floods every time it rains.

Fort Robinson was great! There was so much to do from jeep tours, horseback riding and museums. There was a fun rodeo on Thursday night and the restaurant was reasonably priced. I found the staff mostly helpful. One note- when signing up for activities I think the staff could help explain things a little more thoroughly.
Campsite- we were in site 67. there was adequate shade and the site was flat. All sites were paved and had electric in our loop. Site 67 backed up to a cost is $0.50 for 4 min
Things to do on site- horseback riding, jeep tours, bike riding, kayak rentals, natural history museum, local history museum, playhouse and lots of historic sites.
things to do near by- chadron is a larger town, there is shopping and a great museum related to the fur trade.

Our holding tanks were empty and our fresh water tank was full, so all we needed was electricity. The campsites with electric only are very spacious. A great place to relax, but also wonderful historic fort buildings and lots to see in the area. Very peaceful but a highway does pass alongside, so there is some occasional traffic noise. A really beautiful area.

Very nice place! Electric only at site #50 but well shaded, with a smooth asphalt lot. Easy parking for my 28’ fifth wheel.
