Hotel Jeffery

The Hotel Jeffery is located in Coulterville, California on the newly designated historic hwy 132 which is the shortest, safest and most scenic route to Yosemite from the bay area. Located in the gold country of northern California, the hotel is approximately 28 miles from Yosemite National Park.

The Magnolia Saloon which a part of the Hotel Jeffery, is the oldest working saloon in California, complete with the original "bat wing" doors and is one of only a few saloons to still have them. Coulterville is considered the hub for many of the areas attractions and historical sites. The hotel has entertained many famous guests including Teddy Roosevelt, Mark Twain, John Muir and others. We must not forget to include our "other" guests as well. The Hotel Jeffery has long been known as a haunted hotel with many different ghosts still roaming the halls and rooms. There are said to be 17 ghosts, most of which are not malevolent. Ghost detecting kits are available but need to be reserved in advance.

If you are looking for a haunted room, then room 22 in the Hotel Jeffery is apparently the room to get. Reportedly haunted by an old miner from the hotel’s gold rush days, this man is just one of the many ghosts reportedly spied at the hotel. The hotel plays up its haunted reputation and apparently rents out “ghost detecting kits” that you can reserve with your stay.
