“The only place for a Scramble Dog”
Dinglewood was established in 1918 in what was then rural Wynnton outside Columbus, Georgia. The location was at the intersections of Wynnton Road and Buena Vista Road at the "Y". It remains one of, if not the oldest Independent Pharmacy in Georgia still operating under the original name and charter, and one of the 20 oldest in the nation according to the current records of the NARD (National Assn of Retail Druggists) Our soda fountain is one of the last in the city and has operated since the store opened in 1918. Sport Brown was the original "Head Cook" and served until his death in 1958. During his tenure, Sport hired and trained Lieutenant Stevens (that's his real name) who became legendary while he served from 1943 until his retirement in 2010. Even after 67 official years, he is still on staff and maintains a presence on Saturdays at the fountain. Lou can count 7 generations of the families that still enjoy an association with Dinglewood. The "Scrambled Dog" is a mainstay at the fountain. Invented in 1944 by Ferm Roberts of Columbus, Sport and Lieutenant adapted the dish after Mr Roberts restaurant closed around 1946 and made the dish a Dinglewood tradition. As testament to their labors, Dinglewood has catered weddings in Saudi Arabia, Florence-Italy, Los Angeles and on the Island of A wahoo to name but a few. As a matter of fact, His Royal Highness Prince Charles was treated to Scrambled Dogs in 1976 by then Governor and Mrs Busby at the Governor's Mansion during the Royal visit to celebrate Georgia's Bi-Centenial. Dinglewood's Prescription service remains state of the art. We accept most all Third Party plans as well as Medicaid and Peach-Care for children and Tri-Care. We are a compounding Pharmacy as well. We offer home delivery for prescription and health care needs. Drive In prescription drop off and pick up service is also offered.
