City of Colorado Springs Municipal Airport (also known as Colorado Springs Airport) is a city-owned public civil-military airport 6 miles (10 km) southeast of Colorado Springs, in El Paso County, Colorado. It is the second busiest commercial service airport in the state. Peterson Air Force Base, which is located on the north side of runway 13/31, is a tenant of the airport.
The Colorado Springs airport is a pretty good airport overall. It is small with 12 gates in one concourse, so it is really pretty easy to get in and out of. The rental cars are on site so you do not have to take a shuttle to them. The displays in the main areas are interesting honoring the local military installations and the Olympic athletes that come here to train.
There is a brewery tasting room inside the airport, outside of security that looked like it would be a great place to wait for someone that is coming in on a flight or to grab a bite to eat before your flight.
The TSA was efficient and I got through pretty quickly in spite of the crazy old couple in front of me that could not figure out how to comply to the current process. Ii will continue to use COS for my future flights to the area because it can save me 90 minutes compared to flying into Denver.
