Silver Cascade Falls is a waterfall located on St. Mary's Creek in the North Cheyenne Cañon Park of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Silver Cascade can be reached by hiking a short but steep trail up from North Cheyenne Canyon road at the Helen Hunt Falls trail head. The trail is less than half a mile, but steep in places and the footing can be slippery, especially when wet or when frozen over during the winter months. Care should be taken especially at the top of the falls, as the granite face of the falls is polished, slippery, and much steeper than it appears. The falls have an interesting spout feature about 50 feet below the crest due to an upturn in the rock face. During high flow times, the spout can shoot water over 10 feet off the rock face. The water running over Silver Cascade originates in Buffalo Canyon, passing over St. Mary's Falls and Silver Cascade Falls before merging with North Cheyenne Creek down stream of Helen Hunt Falls.
Well, this was very anticlimactic. 😆 we went to Hellen Hunt falls and continued on the "short hike" I had read about on Google reviews. At the top is roughly 7300-7400' in elevation at the top (my husband has elevation on his watch but we forgot to check at the top) but were winded going up! There are benches close to the top top rest THANK GOD! 😆 It's uneven ground with uneven stepping stones and wood and blocks on a pretty steep incline on kitty litter type substrate. Going down my 13yo daughter and I slipped and almost fell a couple times. 😬 NOT for those who aren't steady on their feet or need assistance walking! And the good thing is, you're not missing anything! There's like this little stream at the top of this long walk. We weren't impressed at all. The view from up there was impressive but the water fall was not. I personally wouldn't go again. Unless you like the hiking part just to hike.... just go to Hellen Hunt and call it good. 🤣
