“named in honor of Helen Maria Hunt Jackson”

This visitor center is nestled at the foot of Helen Hunt Falls in North Cheyenne Cañon Park. It offers an introduction to the natural features visitors will find in the area. Visitors can experience the area through interpretive exhibits, scheduled hikes and walks, and by talking with the informative staff and volunteers on site. The gift shop features Colorado scenic guides and history books, maps, nature books, videos, gift items and drinks. In 1881 the Bruin Inn was built at the base of Helen Hunt Falls. An out building of the Bruin Inn was turned into a visitor center and curio shop. Being the smaller of the two facilities it became known as "The Cub." The Cub survived the fire that destroyed the Bruin Inn. "The Cub" remained to serve as a visitor center by the falls, which were officially, designated Helen Hunt Falls in 1966.

Start your drive on Gold Camp Road by Bear Creek Park and enjoy the scenic views of Colorado Springs from the mountains. After you drive through a large tunnel carved out of a boulder, Helen Hunt Falls will be at the bottom of the valley. The whole area is wonderful to explore in every season.

Of all the hikes we did in Colorado this trip, this was the least enjoyable. Still beautiful, and the visitor's center was great, but it's not much of a challenge and it's pretty crowded. The drive is lovely and there are plenty of other trails in the vicinity. Unfortunately, lightning kept us from exploring them.

You can drive directly to Helen Hunt Falls, but also stay in the area to hike to the 7 Bridges trail. It follows a mountain stream and has beautiful views!
