Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on May 29, 2021Stayed here 1 night back at the end of April. Breathtaking views of Pikes Peak from many spots on the road. We had a bit of trouble navigating in our 29' class C, and though I would love to come back, I wouldn't want to do it in something this big again. Not many spots to turn around, and most of the sites wouldn't fit anything larger than a truck. Many of the sites are just pull-offs from the road and aren't that level. We managed to find one that we could get decently level on. Would have stayed out there for 5 nights but had engine troubles and had to leave after just 1. Driving in we had no cell service through the canyon area but once we got onto the forest road and made it higher up the ridges, we got a couple bars of both TMobile and ATT

Looking for an easy place to stay near Colorado Springs- sufficed for a last minute spot but barely constitutes a camping experience. “Sites” are super small and were probably just logging truck pull offs. Super rocky and uneven ground/very steep drop offs. The first two sites were ok size wise but they were taken- driving further back the road is twisty and uneven, be careful and go slow in dark. Wind was rough so we just ended up sleeping in the car. Works in a pinch but would recommend looking elsewhere.

First couple of nights here were great. Great views. Plenty of firewood. Easy access. Last night, however, I went into to town. I was out late. So, I ended up sleeping in the back of my car in a parking lot. When i got back the next morning, all my gear had been rummaged through and someone stole my hammock. I can't be sure yet what else they stole. I can't believe fellow campendium campers would do something like that. This was my first experience on Public Land. I'm not sure I'll return after this experience.

This area has a fair bit of boondocking, but not all of the sites are ideal.
If you have anything larger than a truck or van, I highly suggest scouting for a spot before driving in very far. There's room to park & scout on Rampart Range road where it turns to from pavement to dirt after you come up the hill, but even the paved section of this road is steep and tight.
Rampart Range road/FS 300 has quite a few spots to the north and south of where it turns to dirt, but most are very close to the road, and would probably be best for short stays since you don't have to go as far on the washboard road. As of Aug 2022, the road south of Springdale campground is really pitted and rough but gets better once you get out of the private property section and back into forest service.
FS 315 and 320 each have a handful of nice spots. They both run along ridge lines with views of Pike's Peak and Woodland Park. Some campsites are great for solar & Starlink, others have more shade. Most are pretty small - I hesitate to put a max length on the area, I personally wouldn't bring in anything much longer than 25' or so, but I did see a couple of 30'+ rigs. The roads branching off of Rampart Range are pretty tight and have a lot of blind corners and hills, but people drive really fast all over this area, so be cautious. Some of these roads start nice enough but get steep & rough later. Cell service is hit & miss, depends on the site. Keep weather and water drainage in mind too, heavy rain seems pretty common. The roads do seem to dry out fast, but some of these campsites will hold water or be on roads that are hard to get out of when muddy.
The walkability is surprisingly not that great here - walking on the roads feels a little sketch with people driving as fast as they do, and since the ridges are pretty steep, walking off-road is tricky. There are nice hiking/bike trails in the valleys between the ridges, though (the trailforks app is pretty handy here).
