I stayed at Chris Flat twice - in the last week of June and in the beginning off July 2017. Having no reviews to go by, it was just a happy accident to end up here. The campground is right off 395 along the banks of the West Walker River, which is apparently great for trout fishing. Every site is first-come, first-served and it does fill up on the weekends, but I never saw it 100% filled to capacity. The sites are decently spaced. Unlike what the landing page says, the campground can easily fit RVs/trailers up to about 35 or 40 feet. We were more than comfortable in site #4 at 30'.
What I love about Chris Flat are the tall pines and the sound of rushing water. Even with the highway right there, it's mostly quiet. Camp hosts Roy and JoAnn keep the place really clean and were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area. There are trash dumpsters, bathrooms, and a few water spigots if you need them. Firewood can be purchased for $7/bundle and there are also TONS of pine cones to help get your campfire lit.
As for the spots... we chose #4 because it had some shade and we'd just come from some pretty extreme heat. #3 is one of the best for solar and #10 has what looks like the best view of the river (along with being a long spot). Chris Flat is also available for day use at $6 per vehicle, but they honor passes like America the Beautiful.
Cell service ranged from usually 1-3 bars 4G on Verizon, though occasionally it dropped out. As for weather, it was 90s during the day but mid to low 50s at night -- hence why they're only open from April to October. Temps rise and drop fast. Luckily with the shade on our site, I never had to turn on the gennie to run my AC.
This place was a treat and I'll definitely be here again before the season is out if I find myself up 395 again!

This is nice campground running alongside the West Walker River close to Walker, CA and Coleville, CA. I used this location as a basecamp for fishing the surrounding waterways. It's a nice USFS campground mostly well-kept by a seasonal host. It has multiple bathrooms, which are maintained daily. The sites are spread apart enough for some level of privacy, but the road is a single lane, so drive slow. In the Spring, expect high waters and thunder storms in the early evenings and in the middle of the night. It's cold at night and warm in the day. In the Summer, it tends to be a bit too hot for me. Even though you're right next to the water, it's still desert land and it's hot in the day and plenty of bugs in the early evening. The South side of the sites have trees, otherwise the other sites are sage and no trees. Spring and Fall are the better times for me, where it's not too cold and not too hot. Unfortunately, reception is bad for AT&T, but Verizon is not that much better, but still better.

We just drove by 7/13/23 and it’s closed with trees down and no host. Maybe some flooding since May? We saw debris in campground. River is still high, fast and a little dirty.
Stopped for the night on the way to Yosemite very clean very clean bathrooms. Camp host super friendly and helpful. Road noise, if your in a tent might bother you but not much on the road after dark. Would definitely stop again!!
