Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on September 05, 2019A very nice, clean, and open ACOE campground on the far eastern end of Lake Sakakawea (or western end of Lake Audubon…it’s actually the reservoir formed by the dam on the Missouri River, so does it really make a difference?) We spent one night here while traveling between Grand Forks and the Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Park. East Totten worked out well for our plans, but there were other options in the area that would probably have been just as good. Several of the sites are located on the water and it looked like a great place to paddle around in a kayak or SUP. I had a great time sitting outside, drinking a beer and watching the birds fly around the lake at sunset.
The campground has two loops (Walleye and Pike). Walleye has electricity (including a few 50amp sites), Pike is primitive with no electricity. There are only a few water spickets in the campground and the toilets are vault toilets (no showers in the campground). There is freshwater available at the dump station, located near the turn-off from US 83. All the sites were fairly large and many of the Walleye sites were paved. There was a fair amount of road noise from US 83.

Nicely laid out ACE campground on the shore of lake Audubon. When you first turn off the highway onto 14th Street there is a dump station with drinking water on the right along with a fish cleaning station. There is a gas station and convenience store on the left. Continue a short distance on 14th Street to the campground. Primitive tenting sites are to the left along with the day-use area and small beach - sites 31-40. Sites 37-40 are nicely tucked back into the woods and a bit more secluded. These are all primitive sites. To the right is the main RV area, sites 1-30. Several sites are paved at the beginning of the loop, the remainder are gravel and fairly level. Sites are either 20/30 or 20/50 so bring a dog bone just in case. There small trees, grassy areas between sites and a few water spigots. Reservations are required - no signup at the campground. Go online or call the reservations number in advance or for same day. The host site is on the left just as you enter the campground.

LOVE LOVE LOVE this campground. Nice level sites with picnic tables and fire ring. Sites are well spaced from each other. Pit toilet that is sparkling clean, grassy areas well maintained. Electricity only, but portable water available in campground and nice dump station with flush water just before you get to highway across from gas station. Loved it so much after 4 days, I returned a week later for another 5 days and plan to return again soon. Each time I stayed in a lakeside site. Views cannot be beat! $20/nt or $10/nt with Senior Pass. Decent AT&T connectivity.

Can’t argue with most other reviewers except for a few things. First we were surprised by the traffic noise from the nearby highway. Worse was the flies…some biting…that drove us indoors. Fortunately site 16 has a lovely water view and at times a stiff breeze kept the flies at bay so we could sit outside and enjoy it.

We were here mid week in early June and it was very quiet and peaceful (so much better than the state park we left to come here!) we had a a lot on the water which was beautiful but also very windy. The lake was fun for the kids to play in and the site was plenty large for any size rig. The site is level gravel with a nice fire pit and picnic table. There is a pit toilet and water spigot in each loop (electric and non electric). The price is posted as $24 at the entrance but still $22 on recreation.gov. There are showers at the gas station right down the street if you need them.
