Confirmed by 1 users | Last reported on July 17, 2018Camped here as a kid (dad used to live in WY and we visited from the Midwest many times) and have fond memories of playing in the creek, watching the bighorn sheep, and peaceful evenings. We are taking our kids out West this summer and would love to stay here, but can't, due to our pop-up (hardsides only campground). We'll probably stop for at least a drive thru so I can rehash the good times! :)
Words cannot do justice to this place which could be described as: beautiful, tranquil, peaceful. How can you describe a campsite next to a rushing mountain creek, set on the banks with wildflowers, towering rocks and beautiful rock formations? We loved this place! The camp hosts were great people, offering assistance - especially in the use of bear containers. Speaking of bears, both camp hosts carried bear spray with them as bears generally frequent the spot, according to the hosts, because it's a great spot to train little bear cubs to fish and gather berries! This is why only hard-sided camping is allowed. However, we did not see any bears.
Our spot was right on the banks of the creek, under the shade of some pine trees. It received sun in the morning and shade in the afternoon.
The campsite was well marked and was down a dirt road from the highway. No water, electric or sewer but there is a newer pump style water pump that provides delicious, cool water that is tested every month during the camping season.

Previous reviewers have pretty much said it all. This is a camp that's very hard to beat. We were here 6/16-6/16/19 and it was not our first trip. We always stay outside a major National Park in NF areas and drive in for the day to see the sights. Much more relaxing at the end of the day, less crowds and also less expensive. We rarely need hookups with good solar, so it's perfect for us.
This last trip we had a big Cinnamon Black Bear stroll through our site - it was great!!

We stayed here on our way to Yellowstone (15 minutes) and loved it. Our site was above the river and provided nice sounds and sights. On the opposite side of the river is a pretty cliff. The scenery was gorgeous. Sites are very shaded with beautiful trees and are relatively dispersed and private aside from the campground road. We saw a grizzly mom and two Cubs across the river shortly after arriving so definitely be near aware! There had apparently been one there recently and part of the park was shut down because of it. Clean CLEAN bathrooms and super easy access to Yellowstone. The best part was honestly the host. 84 year old Maynard. The sweetest, kindest most knowledgeable host we’ve had on our entire cross country road trip. He has a childlike charm and is very fun to talk with. He really added to our experience. And he cares a LOT about what he does.

We drove through looking for a campsite mid September of 2021. We have a 35' fifth wheel and found only one site, a pull through, in the back across the bridge that we could possibly fit in, but low hanging branches prevented us from staying. A travel trailer would've fit here perfectly. If you like a shaded campground, this is the place for you. In the fall with cooler weather, we prefer sunny spots. Other campgrounds along this highway are better suited to larger, longer, rigs.
