“rich mining history”
The Coal County Historical and Mining Museum got its beginning from a high school history class project. The group was tasked with finding and classifying remnants of Coal county’s coal boom-days. The resulting collection was initially displayed at the high school, later moved to city hall and eventually found its home at the Coal County Historical and Mining Museum, established by a nonprofit corporation to display these items and pay tribute to Coal County’s rich mining history. Alongside this collection, the museum also holds cemetery records, funeral home records and tax rolls from 1910 to 1930.
