East Portal Road

This winding road into the canyon is perfect if you'd rather not take an intense and possibly dangerous hike down. There is a very steep section with tight switchbacks, but that makes the drive more fun than impossibly difficult. The way down features amazing geologic formations highlighted by the Gunnison River that created the Canyon. Once on the canyon floor the road follows the side of the river up to the diversion dam, and there's some great scenery. Popular place for anglers, too. It's a nice way to get another perspective on the canyon!
