Natural Features Timber Creek Campground has been impacted by both mountain pine beetle infestation, which killed many of the trees, but also by wildfire. This results in almost no shade in the campground, but it provides for an opportunity to see forest regrowth. Wildflowers can fill surrounding meadows and a mix of Douglas fir, lodgepole pine, and ponderosa pine are all around as you explore the park. Wildlife is plentiful in Rocky Mountain National Park. Mule deer and the majestic Rocky Mountain elk are commonly seen. Black bear, coyote, bighorn sheep and moose also inhabit the area, but are less common to see. Nearby Attractions The town of Grand Lake lies just 8 miles (13 km) outside the park's west entrance. Dining, shopping, and other recreational activities can be found there. Charges & Cancellations

This was a pretty standard NPS campground. The only issue was that the road was still closed because of snow so getting to it was a challenge as my GPS only wanted to take me thru the park and would not chart another way around. Not the fault of the park but it would be nice there were directions in the road closure warnings.

If you want to get away from the rat-race that RMNP can be, the West side of the park is the place to be. Great trails and more wildlife, and even just a smidgen of cell signal at the top of the campground. The sites can be a little cramped at times, but the campground is rarely full outside of peak season. Pit toilets and water spigots to fill those jugs, but no electric.
Be prepare for twice-a-day parades of huge herds of Elk.

The Grand Lake side of RMNP is the place to be. So much more quiet.
This campground has lost almost all of its trees to the pine beetle. So, be aware, it is little more than a wide open field.
This site is awesome though, looking out onto a field by the river. Very pleasant. We waited somewhat patiently as the previous tenant vacated, and were rewarded with a pleasant place in the Rockies.

This is a nice campground with plenty of spaces. It wasn't full at all when we got here and people left the next day as well which made it easy to pick a good spot. They have nice restrooms with no showers. You can take a shower at a motel nearby by obtaining a pass from the campground, but we did not do that. Pretty much all day, there were anywhere from 8-15 elk just wandering around the capground. It was really freaky, but they seemed pretty nice. They would get within a few feet of people, cars, and tents without batting an eye. It was definitely a neat experience!

Good campground 30’ limit for RV’s there’s a couple big enough. The host do there job. I needed a 8th night and they told me to leave “do we need to call the police “ so out I went. I’m done with Rocky Mountain National Park the traffic is a nightmare. Nobody adheres to the no stopping in the road laws. The bicycle rider’s are often in the road the roads are narrow to begin with. So it a nice place but one visit is enough for me.

I stayed in site #99 for three nights. The location is great with easy access to everything on the west side of the park, and plenty of wildlife. This is a typical national park campground with many campsites packed close together, so be prepared to have to listen to your neighbors conversations. Overall, the campground is clean and maintained well. If you stay in loop D, expect a bit of a walk to get to the restrooms.
